The Beartooth Highway is one of the most spectacular National Forest routes on this continent and was designated a National Scenic Byway in 1989. Since its completion in 1936, the Highway has provided millions of visitors a rare opportunity to see the transition from a lush forest ecosystem to alpine tundra in the space of a few miles. Because of its high elevation the road, and this microbox, are only accessible in summer months. The Beartooth has been blessed as "America's most beautiful road" by no less an expert than Charles Kuralt, and I think you will agree.

Directions:

From Cody drive north on Hwy 120, then northwest on Hwy 296 (Chief Joseph Hwy). Turn right (east) on Hwy 212 (Beartooth Hwy) and go about 20 miles to the Bear's Tooth Overlook on the left, just after West Summit.

Clues:

From the pullout, enjoy the view of the Highway's namesake, then turn right and walk to the beginning of a guard rail. Walk down from the road about 5 steps, avoiding the flowers, and look under the first large rock beneath the first guard rail post. The camo microbox is under its right side behind a smaller rock. Please re-cover well.

NOTE: Always take adequate precautions (such as prodding with a stick and/or wearing gloves) before reaching into dark crevasses and holes in the wild. Before you set out read the waiver of responsibility and disclaimer.
