Victory Basin Wildlife Management Area is one of the few remaining wilderness areas in the State of Vermont. Nestled in the Northeast Kingdom's rolling hills, and bisected by a beautiful winding river, the basin is a maze of bogs, beaver flows and boreal forest. In addition to an array of rare plants, its extensive softwood timber stands are home to a bustling population of wildlife, including deer, moose and red fox. Even if you don't see a live fox, hopefully you will find this one hanging around.

Directions:

From St. Johnsbury, go east on Rt. 2 to North Concord. Turn left and go north on Victory Road for a few miles, going through town of Victory, then bend right on River Road. After about 5 1/2 miles you will come to a parking area on the left for Victory Basin WMA. Park near the trail head.

Clues:

Walk on the trail for about 100 yards, then cross some boardwalks. From the end of the last boardwalk, walk 20 steps and look right for 2 trees entwined together 2 steps off trail. The minibox is hanging on the back side 4 feet high. The box is a pill container and is permanently attached to the tree, so remove the top by pushing down while turning counter-clockwise. When replacing the top, make sure to screw it on all the way and check to make sure it doesn't come off if you lift up on it.
