SPECIAL THANKS TO BLUE BUTTERFLY FOR HELPING TO PLACE THIS BOX.
East Texas has long been known for the fine quality of its agriculture, and Tyler is especially ideal for growing a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and flowering plants. However, when a blight destroyed most of the peach crop in the early 1900's, many of the experienced nurserymen in the area turned their skills to growing roses, and by the 1920's, millions of rose bushes were being grown in local fields. Tyler rapidly gained national prominence for rose production and soon earned the title of "Rose Capital of the Nation." In 1933, the local Garden Club held the first Texas Rose Festival, and it has evolved into an annual event that attracts thousands of visitors from across the nation. In 1952 the Tyler Municipal Rose Garden was opened and has become the nation's largest. The Garden blooms with nearly 40,000 rose bushes exhibiting approximately 500 varieties of roses from late April until frost, but this microbox blooms all year. The Garden is free and open daily during daylight hours, so come enjoy the beauty of a Tyler Rose. NOTE: This is a new stamp and location from the first Tyler Rose, so consider it a new box.
NOTE: Always take adequate precautions (such as prodding with a stick and/or wearing gloves) before reaching into dark crevasses and holes in the wild. Before you set out read the waiver of responsibility and disclaimer.
