SPECIAL THANKS TO BAREFOOT LUCY FOR HELP PLACING THIS BOX!
The Texas RR 2 microbox is located at the Rusk Depot of the Texas State Railroad State Park, which is known as one of the nation's largest and most unique steam train operations. Passengers may board the historic trains at either Rusk or Palestine and both ends of the line have turn-of-the-century style train stations and the Rusk/Palestine State Parks. The 50-mile, round-trip steam engine excursions take 4 hours and run from March to November. This box contains a different stamp than the original Texas RR one that went missing and is in a new location, so consider it a new box.
Directions:
Rusk is located about 170 miles north of Houston. The Texas State Railroad Rusk Depot is 3 miles west of Rusk off US Highway 84. Continue around the park road to the train depot and park.
Clues:
Go into the depot to check the train schedule - you need to make sure there are no trains coming or going for the next few minutes. When you exit the depot and are facing the parking lot, turn left and go toward the back of the building. You will see a stationary dining car parked. Go down the steps toward that car until you find yourself standing on a sidewalk running beside the tracks. Turn right on the sidewalk and continue until you are standing next to a lamppost. From the lamppost to the end of the sidewalk is 13 steps. Step off the sidewalk and continue in the same direction for 11 steps. You will find a sign post for the train on your left and on your right you will see two trees, a pine and a sweetgum tree. Look at the back at the base of the sweetgum tree under a charred piece of wood for the camo microbox. Take the box to the nearby picnic tables to stamp in. You will have to be very careful to avoid being seen. Please re-cover as found.
NOTE: Always take adequate precautions (such as prodding with a stick and/or wearing gloves) before reaching into dark crevasses and holes in the wild. Before you set out read the waiver of responsibility and disclaimer.
