Lone Star is a 1996 American mystery film set in a small town in Texas. It features Chris Cooper, Kris Kristofferson and Matthew McConaughey and deals with a sheriff's investigation into who murdered one of his predecessors. Although the film is ostensibly a murder mystery, several ancillary stories help to reveal the complexities of race relations within the town, exploring the psychological boundaries that confront many citizens living close to the border. Eagle Pass was one of the film locations, so this box was placed there in Fort Duncan Park. The fort was established in 1849 to serve as protection against the American Indians, and many of the buildings still remain and have been restored.

Directions:

In Eagle Pass, go west on Business 277 (Main) to Monroe Street and turn left (south). Go about 1/2 mile to Bliss Street and turn right (west) into Fort Duncan Park. Turn right on Shafter and park by the Jesse Sumpter Picnic Area.

Clues:

Walk across the street to the Old Bakery building and go behind it to a stone picnic table. Continue walking toward a baseball backstop for 25 steps. Turn left and walk 7 steps to a medium tree with a hole on it's back side 5 feet high. The microbox is within under some stones. Please be discreet and rehide well.

NOTE: Always take adequate precautions (such as prodding with a stick and/or wearing gloves) before reaching into dark crevasses and holes in the wild. Before you set out read the waiver of responsibility and disclaimer.
