Roseate spoonbills grow to a height of 32 inches with an average wingspan of 50 inches, and their distinguishing characteristics include a pink body and legs, white neck and breast, and a spoon-shaped bill. Some scientists believe that the pink coloration that they acquire as they mature is due to their diet of carotenoid-rich organisms like shrimp, since the more they eat, the pinker they get. The roseate spoonbill is found throughout the entire Gulf of Mexico coastline, and you might see one, along with this minibox, at Lion's/Shelly Park, which is part of the La Bahia Loop described on the Central Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail map.

Directions:

From Hwy 77 in Refugio, travel east on Empresario Road to Lion's/Shelly Park. Park at the south end to the left of the pavilion.

Clues:

Walk south to a sign saying "Kingfisher Point". Turn left (east) and walk 50 steps to a point halfway between the white restroom building and a wood pole to its right. Continue 10 steps to a multi-trunk tree. The camo minibox is in the crotch about 1 foot high under rocks, leaves and a black shingle. Please rehide well.
