The Tropical Parula is a small warbler with blue upper part and yellow belly, and its song is a high buzzy trill. It lives mostly in Central America, but can also be found in South Texas. One place to see it, and this microbox, is at the Texas Department Of Transportation (TXDOT) Sarita Rest Area, which is part of the Los Ranchos De Tejas Loop described on the Lower Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail map.

Directions:

From Kingsville, travel south on US 77 to Sarita. Continue about 6 miles south to the TxDOT Sarita Rest Area on the left.

Clues:

Walk to the south end of the Rest Area to the brick TXDOT sign. Continue south from the sign for about 50 steps to a thin, dead tree trunk about 4 feet tall surrounded by other live trees. The camo microbox is in the top under some sticks. Please rehide well.

NOTE: Always take adequate precautions (such as prodding with a stick and/or wearing gloves) before reaching into dark crevasses and holes in the wild. Before you set out read the waiver of responsibility and disclaimer.
