In 1519, on the Roman Catholic Feast Day of Corpus Christi, Spanish explorer Alonzo Alvarez de Pineda discovered a lush semi-tropical bay on what is now the southern coast of Texas. The bay, and the city that later sprung up there, took the name of the feast day celebrating the "Body of Christ." The Corpus Porpoise 2 is located in Corpus Christi at the Hans Suter Wildlife Area, which is part of the Corpus Christi Bay Loop described on the Central Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail map. It is a great place for viewing gulls, terns and shorebirds all year and migratory birds during spring and fall, not to mention porpoise in Oso Bay. With beautiful beaches, such as Padre Island National Seashore nearby, it is truly divine! This box contains a different stamp than the original Corpus Porpoise that went missing, so consider it a new letterbox.

Directions:

Corpus Christi is about 220 miles southwest of Houston via Hwy 59, Hwy 77 and I 37. From I37, go south on Hwy 358 and exit at Ennis Joslin Road. Go northeast on this road for about 1.5 miles and turn right on Nile Drive into Hans Suter Wildlife Area. Park on the left side.

Clues:

Walk on the path to the wood kiosk with information about Monarch butterflies and the Refuge. If you want to see birds and possibly porpoise, walk north on asphalt path and continue on boardwalk to its end. To find the box, walk south on asphalt path as it winds past the parking area and picnic tables until you come to a post with sign saying "Stay On Trail". Continue on trail about 100 yards to the next post with same sign. Turn around and walk back up the trail 22 steps. On your right should be a dirt path with a post saying "Huisache". Walk down the dirt path for 7 steps from the post, then turn right for 2 steps to a small, multi-trunk tree. The camo microbox is within the trunks under sticks and a rock. Please re-cover well.

NOTE: Always take adequate precautions (such as prodding with a stick and/or wearing gloves) before reaching into dark crevasses and holes in the wild. Before you set out read the waiver of responsibility and disclaimer.
