A Chachalaca is a tropical bird indigenous to Central America, Mexico and the extreme reaches of South Texas. It is fairly large with a long tail and plain brown plumage. A great place to find this bird is on the Chachalaca Trail at Fort Ringgold, but the trail is not developed yet so I could not place the box there. You can find this minibox at the USFWS La Puerta Tract, which is part of the Rio Bravo Loop described on the Lower Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail map.
NOTE: Always take adequate precautions (such as prodding with a stick and/or wearing gloves) before reaching into dark crevasses and holes in the wild. Before you set out read the waiver of responsibility and disclaimer.
