Rice grown in the Katy area is regarded as the finest long grain rice grown in the United States. Every summer in late July and early August, the Katy area rice harvest begins, and concludes with the Rice Harvest Festival in October. It is two days of excitement and family fun with two stages of continuous live entertainment, craft and food booths, carnival and more. It is held in downtown Katy, but to find this microbox you will need to go to the Mason Creek Hike and Bike Trail for a nice stroll in the Katy Prairie.

Directions:

Go west on I10 from Houston to Hwy 99 (Grand Pkwy). Exit and go north about 1 mile to Franz Road. Turn left and go another mile to Porter Road. Turn right and go 1/2 mile to the parking lot for Mason Creek Hike & Bike Trail on the right.

Clues:

Head south on the asphalt trail for about 100 yards as it parallels Porter Road. You will pass a jct. heading right (west), then curve left, now heading east. You will soon come to another jct. to the right. Continue for about 100 steps to a cement culvert on the right. Continue about 195 steps to a clump of large bushes by itself on the right. Continue 20 steps to another clump, then 25 steps to a third clump, which is in front of an indentation in the fence around a large tree. If you get to another cement culvert you have gone too far. Go to the back of the third clump and look within in the middle. The microbox is hanging on a branch about 4 feet high. Please replace as described and be discreet.
