In 1940, Dr. Seuss wrote "Horton Hatches The Egg", followed in 1954 with "Horton Hears A Who". In both stories the kind-hearted elephant displays amazing faithfulness and determination. If you show the same traits, this Horton microbox can be found at Fairfield Lake State Park. Activities include camping, backpacking, hiking, day use equestrian, nature study, bird watching, boating & fishing on the 2400-acre lake, and swimming in a large, buoyed, sandy area. So give a Yop and visit Horton soon.

Directions:

The park is 90 miles south of the Dallas/Fort Worth area, 150 miles north of the Houston area, and 60 miles east of Waco. From I45, go east on Hwy 84 through Fairfield. Watch for State Park brown sign at far end of town, and turn left on FM 488, then go on FM 2570 and finally on FM 3285. After stopping at the entrance station and getting a map, turn right at road juction and drive to the Bird Watching Trail on the left and park.

Clues:

Walk about 100 yards down the trail straight ahead behind the Bird Watching Trail sign, passing a bridge and a bench, until you come to a bird house on a tree to the left with B3 on it. Another bench will be just visible further down the trail on the right. Walk 7 steps off trail behind the bird house tree to a smaller tree behind it. The microbox is hidden on the back side of this tree at its base under some rocks. Please re-cover well.

NOTE: Always take adequate precautions (such as prodding with a stick and/or wearing gloves) before reaching into dark crevasses and holes in the wild. Before you set out read the waiver of responsibility and disclaimer.
