This letterbox was removed at the request of a park ranger, so I have turned it into a Walk-On letterbox. If you follow my clues to the place near where the box used to be, you will be entitled to download the stamp image for printing and count it as a Found box. To download the stamp, click here. Also, record your visit and see other entries in my Online Log Book by going to my aerie. Just because the physical box is missing, I hope it won't stop you from visiting this great place.
The Golden-cheeked Warbler is an endangered species with one of the most restricted breeding ranges in all of North America. A very handsome songbird, it measures from 4.5 to 5 inches long with a wingspan of 8 inches. The male has a black back, throat and cap with snappy yellow cheeks with a black stripe through the eye. Texas is the only state in the union where this bird nests and it prefers the Ashe juniper and hardwoods found in the Texas Hill Country. From early March through early July, Friedrich Wilderness Park is home to the Golden-cheeked Warbler and it can be seen by hiking some of the many trails in this nature preserve located on the outskirts of San Antonio.
NOTE: Always take adequate precautions (such as prodding with a stick and/or wearing gloves) before reaching into dark crevasses and holes in the wild. Before you set out read the waiver of responsibility and disclaimer.
