The Dinosaur Valley letterbox is located in Dinosaur Valley State Park, which contains some of the best preserved dinosaur tracks in the world. Eastward-dipping limestones, sandstones and mudstones, deposited from approximately 113 million years ago along the shorelines of an ancient sea, form the geological setting for the park area. Over the last million years or so, these layered formations have been dissected and sculpted by the Paluxy River, revealing the tracks in the riverbed. In addition to hiking to the tracks, activities include mountain biking, bird watching and camping. Park entry fee is $5.00 per adult.

Directions:

Glen Rose is about 60 miles southwest of Dallas on Hwy 67. From there, go west on FM 205 for 4 miles to Park Road 59, then one mile to Dinosaur Valley State Park.

Clues:

Stop at the entrance to pay the fee and get a map, then park at the Blue Hole area. Look at the tracks in the river from the viewpoint, then walk down the trail to them. From the tracks, walk east 15 steps to the base of the hill. Turn left (north) and climb 10 steps up through big rocks. You will now be above and about even with the tracks but won't be able to see them. Look for a small tree growing between some rocks. Look on the south side of the tree under some loose rocks covering a crevice where the box is hidden near the tree's base. Please re-cover well.

NOTE: Always take adequate precautions (such as prodding with a stick and/or wearing gloves) before reaching into dark crevasses and holes in the wild. Before you set out read the waiver of responsibility and disclaimer.
