This box was placed for the Great Book Adventure Gathering held in Burroughs Park on 10/21/06, and is the first one of my Literature Series. The Call of the Wild was written by Jack London in 1903, but is still enjoyed by many people, young and old. It is a classic dog story that explores the role environment plays in shaping character. Buck is a privileged, dignified dog who is taken from his southern Californian home and shipped to Alaska during the 1890's Gold Rush. Along the way he learns to survive as a member of a dog sled team. As a result, he soon realizes that in these more primitive settings, "the law of club and fang" overrides the rules of civilized society. With each new experience Buck regressess to a more primitive state as he hears "the call of the wild". This story is one of my favorites and I hope this box will inspire you to read it.

Directions:

From Houston, go north on Hwy 249 to Tomball. Go east on FM 2920, then left on Huffsmith-Kohrville Road(FM 2978). Turn right on West Huffsmith Road and Burroughs Park is just over a mile down on left. Continue north past the soccer fields to the pavilion and park by the trail sign.

Clues:

Go to the trail sign and continue behind it on the gravel trail. You will pass volleyball courts, then a dirt path, and then a bench, all on the right. After about 200 yards you will come to a T jct with a dirt road. Go right for about 100 yards where you will come to a T jct with another dirt road. Continue straight across this road to a dirt path going into the woods and follow it for about 95 steps. Turn right and go to a large tree leaning to the left about 15 steps off trail. Continue walking past the tree for about 10 more steps and look right for a small Y-shaped tree. The camo minibox is hanging on the back side of the right fork of the tree about 4 feet off the ground. Don't unhook the box from its hanging place, just open it to stamp in.
