Glass fishing floats are hollow glass balls or cylinders containing air to give them buoyancy and were once used by fishermen in many parts of the world to keep their nets afloat. These glass floats are no longer being used by fisherman, but many of them are still afloat in the worlds oceans, primarily the Pacific, and have become a popular collectors item for beachcombers. Most floats found on the Pacific coast originated in Japan because of its large fishing industry. Almost any beach in Oregon is a good place to look for one of these baubles, but you can find this minibox at Cape Arago State Park.
NOTE: Always take adequate precautions (such as prodding with a stick and/or wearing gloves) before reaching into dark crevasses and holes in the wild. Before you set out read the waiver of responsibility and disclaimer.
