Ten Gallon Tex Hitchhiker

Placed By: Silver Eagle

Many people believe that "ten-gallon hat" refers to a cowboy hat that can hold that much liquid (certainly not brains) in their crowns. In truth, the name is the result of a linguistic mix-up. Since "Galón" is the Spanish word for "braid", and some vaqueros wore as many as ten braided hatbands on their sombreros, those were called "ten galón hats". English speakers heard "ten gallon", and the name stuck. Regardless of its origen, ten gallon hats are as much a part of Texas as oil and The Alamo, so when you meet this hitchhiker, just say "Howdy!", stamp in and send it on to another box. If you have any information to update the table below, please email me. Thanks.
