TX Wildflower LB Event
Organized By: Silver Eagle
Come to our fourth TX LB Event as we celebrate the beautiful wildflowers of Texas in the heart of bluebonnet country.
| Date: | Saturday, 03/03/07 |
|---|---|
| Time: | 10:00 AM - 06:00 PM |
| Location: | Group Picnic Pavilion 3 in the Birch Creek Unit of Lake Somerville SP - Somerville, TX |
| Directions: | From Brenham take Hwy 36 North through Somerville to Lyons. Turn left (west) on Hwy 60 and travel approximately 8 miles. Turn left on Park Road 57 and go 4 miles to entrance. Stop at the entrance station to pay the fee ($3/adult), get a map and ask for directions to Group Pavilion 3. It is by the Cedar Elm camping area. |
| Details: | I have reserved the Pavilion for all day and it will hold 100 people. It is covered and has electric and water outlets, barbecue pit, picnic tables, and access to restrooms. Baby Bear is making the Event Stamp and I will bring name tags so we can remember each other better. We are both bringing chili, so if you want to participate in the potluck lunch be sure to bring some food to share. Other things to consider bringing include: letterbox materials, clues to boxes in area, boxes to place & paper and pen to record clues for others to follow, trash bags, paper plates, plastic forks, bug spray, kid games and anything else to make the day more fun. If you are planning to camp, be sure to make reservations early. Baby Bear and I will be camping in the Cedar Elm camping area on Friday and Saturday nights, so come by for campfire stories and relaxing conversation without the frenzy of exchanges. You may R.S.V.P. on Atlas Quest. |
| Accommodations: | There is camping available in the Birch Creek unit and in nearby Lake Somerville parks. These include Rocky Creek Park, Yegua Creek Park, Big Creek and Overlook Parks and Welch Park. Hotels and other accommodations can be found in the nearby towns of Somerville in Burleson County or Brenham in Washington County. |
| Event Activities: | Exchanging, letterboxing, demonstrations and LB Trivia Game |
| Other Nearby Activities: | If you have extra time, I highly recommend visiting Washington-On-The-Brazos State Park, the birthplace of Texas. It is also fun to take a tour of Blue Bell Creamery in Brenham. |

The weather was chilly but sunny for our 4th Annual TX LB Event at Lake Somerville SP, and we had about 30 letterboxers and a few LSS attend. Baby Bear and Clueless Collector got a roaring fire started in the fireplace and kept it going all day, and that, along with all the chili, kept most people warm. And warm is the word I would use to describe the feel of this Event. Everyone was friendly, excited and just plain glad to be there as we talked with boxers from the past and met new ones, too. After eating, the LB Trivia game was played with Barefoot Lucy edging out Gryzzled Gryphon for first place with 26 out of 35 answers correct. Most found it fun to hear the stories behind the answers even if they did not win. Next it was time for Sandibox to give her demo on creative logbook making, followed by Barfoot Lucy showing how to carve with a dremel. Both demos were well received and highly appreciated. The rest of the afternoon was spent looking for boxes in the park until darkness forced us back to the pavilion for cleanup and more talk. Many people were not camping and had to go home, but a few stayed until after 9:00 telling stories and getting to know each other better. This is one of my favorite things about Events, and I am always grateful when some boxers stick around for it. Each time I learn a little more about my fellow boxers (even GG) and it is fun, too.
I would like to thank Baby Bear for helping me plan the Event, getting the prizes for the Trivia contest, and everything else that made it successful. I would also like to thank everyone who came with food, boxes, or just a fun attitude. You are the best!
