TX Letterbox Rodeo Event

Organized By: Silver Eagle

TX LB Rodeo Event Stamp

Date: Saturday, 03/19/05
Time: 11:00 AM - 08:00 PM
Location: Hale Lake Group Picnic Pavilion in Brazos Bend SP - Needville, TX
Directions: The park is approximately a one-hour drive from downtown Houston. Take Highway 59 South to the Crabb River Road exit and go south on FM 762, following the brown signs to the park entrance on the left. Stop at the entrance station to pay the fee and get a map. To get to the Picnic Pavilion at Hale Lake, follow the main road past the George Observatory parking area and take a right toward the camping areas. Take another right before arriving at the camping areas and follow that road east to its end.
Details: I have reserved the Hale Lake Group Picnic Pavilion for all day and it will hold 75 people. Please R.S.V.P. to Silver Eagle with how many in your group are coming and what you are bringing so I can update this page. The pavilion is covered and has electric and water outlets, barbecue pit, picnic tables, and access to restrooms. Baby Bear and I will bring chili, but everyone should bring their own drinks and potluck food if desired. Baby Bear is making the Event Stamp and Poster and I will bring name tags so we can remember each other better. Other things to consider bringing include: letterbox materials, clues to boxes in area, boxes to place & paper and pen to record clues for others to follow, trash bags, bug spray, kid games and anything else to make the day more fun. If you are planning to camp, be sure to make reservations early.
Accommodations: There is camping available in the park, but not sure if any is available nearby. You can check Campgrounds Of America. Hotels and other accommodations can be found in the nearby towns of Rosenberg or Sugar Land in Fort Bend County.
RSVP List (adults/kids): Silver Eagle(1/2) - chili, bowls & spoons, name tags; Baby Bear - chili, event stamp, poster; Antman; Happy Homeschoolers(2/3); Teamking(2/2) - veggie tray & chips; Corazon(2/1); Droop - fruit; BOXDN(2) - Beignets & coffee; CelticLions(7) - cornbread & Clue game; Barefoot Lucy(1/1); Zed(2) - crawfish cheese dip & chips; Carrascos(2/4); Dewberry(2/2) - Brownies & dessert; Kissin Fishies(2); Bayou Grits(3) - Louisiana Caviar; Hawk; Krohm; CalicoRose; Busy Bee; BusyBeesFamily(2/2) - cookies; Borskey(2); Joy(1/2) - Fritos; MAGS(2/2); Molly Grue(2/2) - trail mix; Mystery Guest
Activities: Meet, exchange, eat, group photo & letterboxing - repeat as desired. Wild West Clue game at 2:00.
Other Recommended Activities: If you have extra time, I highly recommend attending the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, which is only about 1 hour away. Near the park is the George Ranch Historical Park, a great place to see how early Texans lived. In the park is the George Observatory where you can look through several large telescopes on Saturday nights after dark. Farther north of the park is a great place to see Bluebonnets and other wild flowers in Brenham & Washington County.

Post Event

A combination of good weather (75 degrees, partly cloudy), great food, plentiful letterboxes, and some of the best people you will ever meet made our Second TX LB Event a huge success. Over 50 people attended and there was non-stop activity the entire day. My only regret is that I did not get a chance to talk longer with more people. The Wild West Clue game was a big hit and I tip my hat to Celtic Lions for organizing it. I also want to give special thanks to Wanda for driving all the way from Rhode Island, to the Louisiana boxers who made the Event memorable, and to all Texas Letterboxers that came and shared food, stamps and stories. Ya'll are the greatest!
