| Details: | I have reserved the Group Picnic Pavilion for all day and it will hold 25 people with parking for 10 cars. If you are camping nearby, please consider leaving your car at your campsite to leave room for others. The pavilion is covered and has electric outlets and a fireplace. Baby Bear is carving the Event stamp and Happy Homeschoolers is making the Event poster. I will also bring name tags so we can remember each other better. Other things to consider bringing besides food and drink: letterbox materials, clues to boxes in area, boxes to place & paper and pen to record clues for others to follow, trash bags, firewood, kid games and anything else to make the day more fun. |
| Activities: | Meet, exchange, eat, letterbox demos, kid games & letterboxing |
| Other Recommended Activities: | If you have extra time, I highly recommend visiting Austin, which is only about 30 minutes west. There are many great places to visit, and by looking for the letterboxes hidden in the city you will be taken to many of them. If you have a lot of extra time, I also recommend driving south to Aransas NWR to see the whooping cranes. It is one of the few places you can see these magnificent, endangered "Winter Texans". |
The weather was gorgeous, the food was great, the letterboxing was plentiful and the letterboxers were fun. The Event exceeded all of my expectations and I think everyone had a great time. Over 35 people attended, which is amazing since I only expected a handful when I first started planning the Event a few months ago. Texas letterboxing has really taken off and it was great to meet some of the faces behind the stamps. Special thanks go to Baby Bear for helping me host the Event and for carving the Event stamp. Also a special thank you to Kathy of the Homeschoolers for making the Event poster. And a great big tip of my hat to everyone else who shared everything from food to good cheer, because you made the First TX LB Event a huge success!
