This letterbox was confiscated by a park ranger and might be replaced by him in the near future. In the mean time, I have turned it into a Walk-On letterbox. If you follow my clues to the place where the box used to be, you will be entitled to download the stamp image for printing and count it as a Found box. I won't make you type a password to obtain the image or prove you did the hike, I'll let your conscience be your guide. To download the stamp, click here. Also, record your visit and see other entries in my Online Log Book by going to my aerie. Just because the physical box is missing, I hope it won't stop you from visiting this great place.

Devil's Den is a cave you can explore while looking for this letterbox in Devil's Den State Park, nestled deep in a picturesque Ozark valley. A mountain stream forms a peaceful 8-acre lake before cascading over a native stone dam, and hiking trails access backcountry areas of the park and the surrounding Ozark National Forest. The park has sixteen fully-equipped cabins with kitchens and fireplaces along with a campground.

Directions:

To reach Devil's Den State Park, travel eight miles south of Fayetteville on I540 to Exit #53 (West Fork), then go 17 miles southwest on Ark. 170. Or I540 to Exit #45 (Winslow) and go 7 miles west on Ark. 74.

Clues:

Park at the trailhead for Devil's Den Cave Trail near the visitor center and bring a flashlight if you plan on exploring the cave. The trail is a loop so go right at the first jct. After about .25 mile you will come to the cave. I highly recommend exploring the cave and then completing the trail, but just getting to this point qualifies you to download the stamp as a Find.

NOTE: Always take adequate precautions (such as prodding with a stick and/or wearing gloves) before reaching into dark crevasses and holes in the wild. Before you set out read the waiver of responsibility and disclaimer.
