Linkin Park seemed to come from nowhere, and many accused them of being fakes. Yet ironically, Linkin Park are one of the most grounded groups around, and their honesty is at the heart of thier success.
IN THE BEGINNING
When Brad Delson and Mike Shinoda met at the California high school, music was the bond that drew them together. Inspired by both hard rock and hip hop, they dreamed of creating a band that could combine these twin influences.
FIRST STEPS
With Rob Bourdon and Joseph Hahn on board, the band that would be Linkin Park began to evolve. But a long hard road still stretched ahead of the fledging group.
THE LEARNING CURVE
Signing a publishing deal after only thier first gig in LA, it seemed like success was assured. But a record deal remained frustratingly elusive, until mutual aquaintances suggested they hook up with a young singer from Arizona.
THE FIFTH ELEMENT
When Chester Bennington joined Linkin Park, the circle was complete. Working on their songwriting and developing their sound, the band were soon strong enough to sign with Warner Brothers, and finally go into the studio proper.
INTO THE LIGHT
HYBRID THEORY, Linkin Park's debut albumm, was a collection of songs developed over nearly five years. Fresh, inventive and mature beyond their years, Linkin Park showcased a sound that was unmistakingly their own.
OVERNIGHT SUCCESS?
Many felt that a band so fully formed couldn't possibly have evolved naturally, and accused Linkin Park of being manufactured. Yet for millions of fans, the only thing that mattered was the music.

When a San Diego student tragically turned a gun on his schoolmates, the media were quick to report the Linkin Park were among hir favorite bands. To the credit, the band handled the controversy with both sensitivity and dignity.
