Fresh Air

I walk outside and sit down on the grass
I may even lay to watch the clouds pass
I may even count them or imagine what they are
Thinking not of their destination or how far
I get up from the grass and decide to walk
The inviting woods is open without chain or lock
I walk inside and listen to the animals speak
Not thinking of what makes them each very unique
The trees seems to stand still as I pass them by
I don't think of how they got there or even why
I may even sit down in the woods and open my ear
I may even feel great to have the peace I hold dear
But I know that time will soon go and so shall I
So I get up and go and let the serene woods just lie
I do not think of what will happen in the next year
That all will be gone and the trees will disappear
I walk into my house and I get a glass of water
I wonder about the weather and wonder why it's hotter
And the sky has been more sunny than the previous day
But I do not worry I just drown these thoughts away
I relax and drink away not thinking of it without
Not thinking of the possibility of a record drought
But I begin to yawn and I believe it is time I slept
I do not even think of how much of the air that I have left
I walk outside the next day and take a walk by the lake
I look at the rippling water that a rock did make
I enjoy the peaceful rippling and watch the fish swim on
Not thinking of the summer that this water will be gone
But now I see across the place where I saw this lake
I wish I would have captured the moment for my mistake
I felt it was good to look and not to see into it more
But now I have found that being around is not like before
And I do not see my reflection in the dirt that the lake lay
I see nothing now but the memory of that long gone day
Things have changed so much from the last time I spent here
The place I suffered in, the clouds that were so very near
My woods are gone and a parking lot has been placed instead
The grass is no longer green and all the fish have become dead
The simply horrific drought that took lives and almost my own
Left me without money, without water, and almost all alone
What does a man profit for not being able to just prepare
Just in case, or for cautions that warn us to be aware
Take nothing for granted, take nothing because it is there
Do take warning, take in the possibilites, and take care
