NotesI have sucessfully configured this with, kernel 2.6.20-15-generic, 2.6.20-16-generic, and 2.6.22.1
Display When I first installed Fiesty Fawn 7.04, the dual monitor clone monitor worked perfectly, the dual screen did not. I broke this some how, and I haven't been able to find the module that makes it work again. Other than that, the display works perfectly.
Graphics Beryl works beautifully, Compiz works beautifully, Compiz-Fusion however, crashes constantly. The best configuration, use Graphics Card Intel 945, and Driver i810.
Sound Ok, In order to get the sound to work.
First you need to go to the Alsa Website. Download the latest driver sources. Then download the realtek patch here realtek6.tar.gz. Unless you compiled kernel 2.6.22.1, its already included.
tar -xvf the alsa source, and tar -xvf the realtek patch,
then copy the realtek patch to '/alsa-source/pci/hda', and '/alsa-source/alsa-kernel/pci/hda'.
Do your make as usual './configure, make, and sudo make install'.
After everything is finished, create a new file (if it doesn't already exist) in /etc/ called modprobe.conf.
Add the line 'options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo'
You can now do 'sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel model=lenovo', and if that doesn't work, reboot into your new desktop with sound.
Wireless First, go to madwifi.org.
I don't recommend downloading the openhal version from svn. As it is in an experimental state. Also I couldn't get it to work. ;)
Download madwifi-version.tar.bz2 or gz.
Again, tar -xvf madwifi-version.tar.gz or bz2.
With madwifi you need to make sure to use sudo or su.
Do 'sudo make clean', then 'sudo make' then 'sudo make install'. It might come up with a prompt that will say,
modules already exist (remove install ignore, blah blah) choose r for remove.
Then, 'sudo modprobe ath-pci'. Your wireless should now work. if not add it to '/etc/modules'. But you can probably just reboot and it should work.
Processor I couldn't get dual-core to work with 'linux-image-686, linux-image-386, or linux-image-smp'. It only seems to work with the generic kernels.
Internet Button On The Left I've heard in Ubuntu it automatically works with Firefox.
If your using Kubuntu, go into edit menu (Klick on the application menu, go to the browser you want it to start, right click, choose edit item, then click on the shortcut key button, and press the internet key. Save your settings and now your internet button will load your favorite browser.
Tip : You can load multiple browsers with it by using control and alt or shift button combinations.
I hope this has been helpful, if any of this has worked on other satellite laptops, or toshiba laptops, please let me know by sending an email to [email protected]. Thanks.
