The Taleban came to the attention of the world in mid 1990's. Taliban were a group of people who at first fought agains t the attrocities of the waring faction of the former Mujahideen leaders . These leaders turned into bandits and robbed their own people.
Many of the women in Afghnistan were raped and Kabul the capital of Afghanistan turned into a ghost town. At that moment Taliban, who are mostly the students od religios schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan grouped together and started fighting against the mujahideen leaders turned robbers of Afghnistan.
Pakistan, a country really woried about the influx of the refugees into its borders helped Taleban in order to achieve some sort of peace in Afghistan and to stop the refugees coming into its own borders.
Taliban captured province after provice in Afghanistan and in 1996, the captured Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan from the Northern Alliance. They pushed Northern Alliance , which became an alliance after the birth of Taleban, into a very small area in Afghanistan, called Panjsher valley. Uptill September 11 attacks in US, Taleban captured almost 98% of the country.
At the beginning of the Taleban rule, people of Afghanistan were really happy because Taleban brouht peace to Afghnistan and they made Afghnistan a better place to live. |
