Die Stadt Ismailiya wurde eigens für den Bau und die Einweihung des Suezkanals in den 1860er Jahren errichtet. Sie trägt daher den Namen des damaligen ägyptischen Herrschers, des Khediven Ismail. Vielen Häusern im älteren Teil der Stadt sieht man den europäischen kolonialen Baustil an. Ismailiya ist darüber hinaus eine grüne Stadt mit vielen Bäumen und Parkanlagen.
The city of Ismailiya was built for the construction and the opening of the Suez Canal in the 1860s. Therefore it was named after the Egyptian ruler of the time, the Khedive Ismail. The older part of the town reveals many houses of the European colonial style. Moreover, Ismailiya is a green city with many trees and park areas.
