(L to R) Gia Ali, Natasha Hussain, Sobia Nazir, Zeeshan Karamat,
Vaneeza Ahmed, Aaminah Haq & Janie Saira Liang. "A daring blend of colors and texture"Islamabad: Offering innovations in cut, color, and style leading
fashion models presented an array of dazzle-wear, ranging from casual and
formal to bridal, at a fashion and musical evening at the Marriott Hotel
on Saturday, . The event was sponsored by TeleWorld and Liquid Diversity
and supported by seven multinationals, in addition to a packed audience of
five hundred plus. The event was organized to raise funds for the
under-construction Sukhi Ghar family health hospital for the capital's
poor. Sobia Nazir’s exclusive designer wear was featured in the fashion
show titled ‘Fashion 2K – Eastern Diversity’. The show kick-started the fund
raising season in Islamabad.
Modeling glitterati Aaminah Haq, Natasha Hussain, Vaneeza Ahmed, Gia Ali, Zainab Qayyum along with fourteen other models, displayed striking outfits designed by SOBIA NAZIR, presented by JANIE SAIRA LIANG & Choreographed by ZEESHAN KARAMAT. For casual dresses (more suitable for evening wear were bodice embroidered shirts with short sleeves and trouser-like straight pajamas, all in silk, velvet, and lace. The second segment of the programme titled 'Whispering Winds' was a presentation of formal wear. The outfits in this range were a daring blend of colors and textures as some dresses were weaved in a collage of velvet, silk and chunri. The formal dresses were adorned with sequence and silk thread work on the shirts with flowing lace dupattas and glitzy sandals complimenting the overall costume. Purple and mauve dresses looked out of the ordinary. Nusrat Fateh Ali's Aafreen-Aafreen played as the background music, was captivating. The models were bedecked with bronze overtones in facial makeup with striking accessories like peacock feathers decorating their hairdos. Aquamarine emerged as the trendy color. From casual to bridal, sea-green dominated the show. The color and presentation in aqua looked so striking in two of the bridal dresses and received such acclamation that the favorite color for wedding dresses can be predicted. Whether the striking ghagra-choli with it's innovation in color and design will challenge Bunto's traditional ghagra, fashion analysts will have to wait and see. But what really mattered on Saturday evening by Sukhi Ghar volunteers was the extent of support the fashion event managed to generate for their close to completion hospital project.
Hair and make-up by Janie Saira Liang was very well done and
enhanced the looks of the models. Exotic looking accessories and jewelry were tastefully matched with the outfits. Henna decoration on hands and
arms gave a groovy look and added to the overall fashion statement. Janie,
who also did some modeling for the show is following in the footsteps of
her mother Daniella, a well known name in the beauty business.
In between segments the audience was entertained to live performances by Rizwan-ul Haq, Fakhir of Awaz fame and Jawad. These boys provided the audience a chance to loosen-up and so it was a good idea to break up the segments with musical interludes. The best part of all this is that Liquid Diversity is a group of young people with creative thoughts and a versatile concept. They have joined together to strive for noble causes and make the world a better place for those who are underprivileged. A day after the show they presented the convener of Sukhi Ghar, Nighat Abbassi with a cheque for Rs: 200,000. Keep it up! |
