Padme hovered over the cradle which held her son, he looked peaceful, as Anakin had when he was young. He reminded her so much of Ani. Luke was a precious symbol of that once happy life; the life she no longer possessed. She considered herself dead, dead to all she knew. She was no longer a Queen, no longer a Senator, she was Padme. Somehow this didn't upset her; she didn't miss those parts of her old life. She only missed Ani, but she was dead to him too, as he was dead to her, or as he should be.

She stroked the brow of her sleeping baby, as she often did in the dusk to soothe him to sleep, something she soon would have to give up, when she let him go. Obi-wan told her that this had to be done, but she wanted with every fibre of her being to keep both her beloved children. Tomorrow morning she would part with him, her treasured baby boy.

Luke stirred, Padme looked on as he stretched out his tiny limbs, reaching up toward her with his eyes closed, then retracting his elegantly minute apendages, the little boy opened his eyes.

"Shhh, darling close your eyes," she said in a resonately calming voice, touching the tiny nose on her sons face, he smiled slightly and his eyes became hazy, "it's okay Luke, everything's okay...." she whispered, her voice trailing off.

Hush my love now don't you cry

Everything will be alright

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She felt a tear fall down her cheek, it droped lightly on Luke's face and his eyes awoke again, looking up at his mother, a look of childlike worry on his face. He looked about to cry when Padme lifted her son with trembling arms, rocking him as she had every night since his birth, as she would no longer. Her tears became more frequent as her son drifted into slumber. He dreamt of his mother, only she had been happy, there had been peace...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Close your eyes and drift in dream

Rest in peaceful sleep

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Padme wondered if Luke would remember her, if he would recall these nights, when she would cradle him in her arms, when she would hum tunes from her childhood. She could only hope that he remembered one thing, that she showed him one thing...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If there's one thing I hope I showed you

Hope I showed you

Just give love to all

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She clutched her son as though he was her only savior, her only link to life, and perhaps he would be for many, perhaps the Force will guide him home, back to his family...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Oh my love...in my arms tight

Everyday you give me life

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Padme sat down in a cushioned chair where she often read to the babies, knowing that this would be Luke's last visit to it's wonderous possibilities. He was sleeping soundly, his breath gave a rhythm to the silence, the rise and fall of his small chest gave rhyme. She allowed her own lids to flutter shut, a sense that this would be one last peaceful night...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As I drift off to your world

We'll rest in peaceful sleep

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She dreamt of a time that might have been, a place that should have existed. She saw Anakin holding Leia in his arms, his the forehead of his beautiful daughter. She ran to embrace him, but before she reached him she remembered reality, what Anakin had done, whatt things really were. But somehow she wasn't angry with him any longer...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I know there's one thing that you showed me

That you showed me

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
... she didn't hate him, she didn't even fear him so much. She had stopped her advancement, but she changed her mind, looking down at Luke, still in her arms, then continued to run towards Ani, encircling him as only she could, only in this dream...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Just give love to all

Let's give love to all

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
