The Inception of the Sigma Nu Chapter

There was a long, hard struggle to get our historic sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (DST) on Missouri Western State College's campus. Let the record reflect that before these three members of DST became members they were individuals striving to make Delta an item on our campus for years. Summer of 1993, Ameerah Salaam, Tracie Townser, and Precious Love became members at the Kansas City, Missouri Regional Conference. After which, they held informationals and a strong desire to bring Delta on campus. It was not until Summer 1995 that another line crossed at the Oklahoma Regional Conference on May 31, 1995. The members of this line from MWSC included Darlene Lenley, Jana Nichols, Andrea Ray, Catina Shannon, Binita Thurman, and Amy Waite.

When the semester began that fall, a colony of DST was created, called Devastating Sister's of Today. This name was taken from a Delta T-Shirt that Ameerah Salaam owned, and was voted on among the others. Devastating Sister's of Today was an organization with fundraiser's, school activities, informationals, and most of all, community service. After only one semester and a half, this organization held membership intake, initiated seven members, and chartered the Sigma Nu Chapter.

The initiation and chartering cerimonies were held on April 20, 1996 with the help of our Regional Director Gloria Johnson and Advisor Denise Gilmore.
