86 years ago... 22 women had to go... on a mission to make the world a little greater...
On the campus of Howard University, January 13,1913, marks a momentous date. Twenty-two ambitious, devoted, and visionary women founded the most elite organization,Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Inspired by concern for social welfare, academic excellence, and cultural enrichment, our founders committed themselves to public service. This heartfelt desire to serve mankind has aided in de-emphasizing the social aspects as the related to sorority life in the past.
Delta Sigma Theta has surpassed the odds and become synonymous with service. Fighting for voting rights by participating in sufferage marches, attacking illiteracy by establishing library projects, and fighting for desegregation of troops in World War 2 are just a few of Delta Sigma Theta's many accomplishments. The high ideas and morals of our founders have become the epitome of what over 200,000 women all over the world stand for.
