| Sigma Alpha Iota, International Music Fraternity, was organized in 1903 "to form chapters of music students and musicians who shall by their influence and their musical interest uphold the highest ideals of a music education; to raise the standard of productive musical work among women students of colleges, conservatories and universities." Our seven founders were: Elizabeth Campbell, Frances Caspari, Minnie Davis Sherrill, Leila Farlin Laughlin, Nora Crane Hunt, Georgina Potts, and Mary Storrs Andersen. We currently have 191 active college chapters, 114 alumnae chapters, and an international chapter. As of August 2001, SAI initiated members worldwide numbered 96,083 and active members numbered 7,805. |
