Up_RiSiNg Guild Charter

Up_RiSiNg  is a guild on the Leo server (Constellation Group) of Conquer Online.

Up_RiSiNg  was established to provide an environment where guild members can have fun, make new friends, and know that their beliefs and personal boundaries will be respected.  In other words, a place where guild members can feel at home.

I.  Goals

1.  Become a well known and respected guild without sacrificing our own integrity.

2.  Encourage members to level regularly and improve skills.

3.  Protect allies, members, and noobs (who may not be members) from pkers (player killers).

4.  Provide a helpful, friendly, and fun environment for each member of the guild.

II.  Guild Structure

A.  Leadership

a.  Guild Leader
-Amanda

b.  Lead Deputy Guild Leader
-ACUDA

c.  Deputy Guild Leaders
-Sigismund

B.  Ranks

a.  Member
Members are a full fledged part of Up_RiSiNg guild. As such, they are required to be active members and take part in the protection and growth of the guild.  Members are eligible to be considered for leadership positions (as they become available), nominate others for leadership positions, and have access to the protection of the guild.

b.  Deputy Guild Leader
Deputy Leaders (DL) are chosen, officially, by the Guild Leader.  After careful consideration and in council with the remaining deputy leaders (and, if possible, the exiting DL too), the Guild Leader will promote the member that best personifies the guild values.  The DLs work together in the daily functions and organization of the guild.  DLs  can add new members.

c.  Lead Deputy Guild Leader
A Lead Deputy Leader is chosen by the Guild Leader to run the guild in his/her absence.  The Lead DL represents the other DLs when appropriate.

e.  Guild Leader
Guild Leader (GL) is the head of the guild.   Essentially all functions of the guild  are the responsibility of the GL.  The GL has the authority also to delegate many, but not all responsibilities to the DLs or other responsible guild members.  Removing a member, demoting a DL, placing a new GL in charge, adding allies or enemies, removing enemies or allies, and disbanding the guild are the sole responsibility of the GL.  Whenever possible, the guild leadership, as a whole, will make decisions collectively on all major issues.

f. Branch Manager
The branch manager is a unique position.   Guild Leader (GL) is the head of the guild and essentially all functions of the guild  are the responsibility of the GL, but the GL can divide the guild into branches and assign branch managers to each branch.  A branch manager can remove a member from his/her branch and demote an intern. Placing a new branch manager in charge, adding allies or enemies, removing enemies or allies, and disbanding the branch are the sole responsibility of the GL.  Branch managers are subject only to the GL.

g.  Intern Branch Manager
Branch version of a DL (see b.  Deputy Guild Leader).

III.  Recruitment

A.  There is no level or class requirement in order to join the guild.  The GL or one of the DLs can join a petitioner to the guild.  The only requirement to join is that the petitioner must agree to the following general rules

1.  No pking.
2.  No looting or grave-robbing.
3.  No begging for items, money, or p-leveling.
4.  “Family-friendly” comments in the guild chat.

B.  If the petitioner will agree to these rules, then the GL or DL must explain the disciplinary procedure in these simple terms:

1st offense = a warning
2nd offense = the violation is brought to the attention of the GL who will consider whether or not to boot the individual. (Depending on the offense, the GL may choose to discuss the issue with the DLs)

If all is agreeable, then  the new member will be welcomed into the guild.

IV.  Guild Conduct

The rules of the guild are based upon the principles of honesty, humility, and respect.  All members must recognize that Conquer Online, though in and of itself is just a game, has players who are real people.  What is said and done can be very easily misinterpreted and feelings can be hurt.

The following rules are not “guidelines” to be overlooked.  They must be followed.  Again, where there is a violation, there is a warning.  If the misbehavior continues, the member could be booted from the guild.

A.  Guild Chat

1.  Personal issues must be addressed in whisper or team chats, not in guild chat.
1a.   Personal issues are defined as:
--    hard feelings that exxxist between two people within the game or in real life
--    inappropriate ventinggg of feelings (i.e. calling people names, bad mouthing eachother, yelling, etc.)
--    issues or problems attt home, if your upset or emotional dont take it out on the guild, please find someone to talk to in
       a private setting.
1b.  Special Circumstances involving other guilds also qualify as personal issues.
--    do not bring in issueees that are from another guild
--    in our guild, once a character agrees to the rules, starts with a clean slate, do not bring into the chat old grievances
2.  No talking about raping, molesting, or abusing another person in guild chat (or in any other chat for that matter). It does not matter whether it is in jest or not. Its not funny. Do not do it.  A DL can be demoted for such an offense. If the behavior continues a member will be removed from the guild.
3.  Keep critical remarks in whisper chat.  If there is a problem with another guildie, contact a DL or the GL.  Let them mediate.
4.  No swearing.  Keep such language private, not in guild chat.

B.  KSing  (Kill Stealing)

Do not start killing monsters in a spawn where another player is working.  It’s not fair and it’s not fun.  One can get enemies real fast doing this.

C.  PKing (Player Killing)

PKing is part of the game.  Without pking, the game would not be much fun.  On the same token, if there is a lot of pking, the game isn’t very fun either.  Therefore, the guild has taken the stance of no arbitrary pking, ie. “pking because I’m bored.”  There are exceptions to the “no pk” rule.

1.  When noobs or miners are being attacked.
2.  When a guild member is being wrongfully attacked.  (“Wrongfully” is the key word)
3.  When a guild ally is being wrongfully attacked.
4.  When asked to do so by a leader in order to help somebody out.
5.  When a person is on a KOS (kill on sight) list. This will be announced on guild chat when needed.  Talk to a leader about adding someone to a KOS list.
6.  When a known botter is mining.  (They are violating the CO terms of agreement. It only fair they are punished.)

When in doubt, ASK.  The guild does not need a bad reputation or enemies.

D.  Looting or Grave Robbing

Looting is when someone picks up someone else’s loot from monster kills.  Don’t do it.  You can get pked.

Grave robbing, as the name implies, is taking what falls out of players after they have been killed by a monster or another player.  There is nothing wrong with picking things up to give them back, but people have been known to pk players without asking questions.  It is recommended the guild member use their judgment in these cases.  Understand that grave robbing is not always frowned upon, especially when a pker is the dead one.

E.  Begging

Begging is an annoying and disruptive practice.  Begging is asking for money, p-leveling, or items without the intent of working for them.  Asking for help, ie. help to form a team or deal with a pker, is not considered begging, but can be viewed as begging when “no” or silence is not taken for what it means, “NO.”

F.  Additional Rules

The above rules, are the ones that are conditions of joining the guild.  The following are just a few that have come up recently that must be addressed.  (Remember : 1st  offense = warning; 2nd offense = boot)

1.  Guild members will not harass, stalk, or be disrespectful to other members or the leadership.

2.  Guild members will not mobilize other players  to harass, annoy, or abuse others.

3.  Guild members will not retaliate, in anyway, to disciplinary action.

4.  Guild members will not participate in a trade scam.

5.  Guild members will not sell or lend their accounts to another.  If you are done with your character, delete him/her.

6.  Guild members will not take advantage of a known exploit, bots, or otherwise violate Conquer Online terms of agreement.  If you end up in “bot jail,” the leadership will want to know why.

7.  Guild members will not slander or defame other members or players.

8.  Guild members will always respect all players in Conquer Online.  Including enemies.

V. Grievances.

A grievance is a circumstance thought to be unjust and ground for complaint or resentment.
In a guild chat, misunderstandings are bound to happen and sometimes peoples emotion's get the better of them. A procedure is in place to prevent further conflicts that comes from grievances from dominating the guild chat.

A.  Within the guild.
1.  Try to resolve the conflict privately and peacefully.
2.  If the issue cannot be resolved privately(in a whisper), then privately ask a leader (leaders are listed under II) for help.
3.  The leader will talk to all involved (members and nonmembers) and find out the views and feelings of each individual.
4.  The leader will provide a fair solution.  If disicplinary action is needed it will be handled privately by a leader.
5.  If a decision made by the deputly leader is viewed as unjust or unsatisfactory, any member can make an appeal to the guild leader.
All decisions by the guild leader are final.

B.  With members of other guilds.
1.  Try to resolve the conflict privately and peacefully.
2.  If the issue cannot be resolved privately, then privately ask a leader for help.
3.  The issue is now in the hands of the leadership.
4.  The leader will talk to all involved (members and nonmember) and find out the views and feelings of each individual.
5.  If necessary the guild leader will speak to the other guild leaders and an appropriate solution will be discussed.  The guild leader is the guild representative and will defend and advocate for members of the guild.
6.  The guild leader will decide if action needs to be taken against the other guild.

C.  Special Circumstances.
1.  Most members of the guild will have other characters which may be in other guilds.
    a.  The guild leader speaks for the guild, this is the same for all guilds. Members do not speak for a guild unless they are the guild leader.

    b.  If you are a leader in another guild, your grievances from within another guild neeed to stay in that guild or be resolved through that guild's guild leader.

For example:  Sigismund is a guild member of  Up_RiSiNg and Binky is a deputy leader for *downfalling*.  They are different characters run by the same person (Brian).  Binky has problem with one of his guildies, sinful.  Sinful was booted from *downfalling*, and has joined  Up_RiSiNg.  Brian doesn't like that decision and wants to retaliate.  Brian uses his character, Sigismund, to start a conflict, involving sinful, within Up_RiSiNg.  Sigismund has broken the guild rules.

After Binky speaks to his guild leader (*downfalling*) and tries to resolve this issue, he may then come to Sigismund's guild leader (Up_RiSiNg) and ask for help resolving the conflict.

2.  Each character is viewed as an idividual. Member characters will not be chastised for actions made by that same individual's nonmember characters.

For example:  Inmate is in Yakuza and Amanda is in Up_RiSiNg.  They are different characters run by the same person(Amanda).  Inmate pks empress.  Empress can retaliate against Inmate but not against Amanda.  If empress retaliates against Amanda she will be breaking the guild rules.

3.  This is not an invitation to mistreat members by threatening to pk them with a nonmember "alt."

VI.  Disciplinary Procedure

The procedure is very simple, but often unpleasant.

A.  When a guild member breaks a rule, they will have an opportunity to explain themselves (even if it is totally obvious that they were in the wrong).  The member will be given a warning, if found to be at fault.  A DL is usually demoted if the offense is serious enough (which is to be decided by the GL), but they can remain members of the guild and enjoy the benefits of membership.

B.  A repeat offense, shows that the member chooses to ignore the rules and must be considered for removal from the guild.  Removal is considered by the GL and the DLs collectively.

C.  If it is decided that the member must be booted from the guild, it is wise for the exiting member to leave with a little dignity.  Accept the decision of the guild leadership and leave quietly.  The door is open for most to come back after some time, if they do not “burn bridges.”

VII.  Being Readmitted to the Guild

Being readmitted is at the sole discretion of the GL.  How the member left the guild (left on bad terms, booted, or left on good terms) affects the decision.

VIII.  Alliances and Enemies

A. Alliances

Allies are very important for the protection of the guild and is part of our goal of making friends.  Alliances can only be created by the guild leader.  All members may have input as to who will be a guild ally, but the guild leader and the deputy leaders will make the final decision, which must always be in the best interest of the guild.

B.  Enemies

Enemies are a last resort.  Putting a guild on the guild enemy list places a target on ALL guild members' heads, especially the leadership and low level members.  The guild leadership decides, collectively who to enemy and who to just plain avoid.  The guild may have individual enemies.  Individual enemies are dealt with in a case by case basis.  Actions of one individual do not necessarily speak for an entire guild.  Members may be part of the "enemying" process by keeping the leadership informed of evil acts against the guild.

IX.  Guild Branches

The guild, as it grows, could put a trremendous strain upon the the leaders and the resources of the guild.  The creation of a branch may be the remedy.  A branch is run by a branch manager.  A branch can probably best be described as a guild within a guild.  The branch manager has similiar authority over the branch as the GL has over the entire guild ( see f.  Branch Managers)

Changes can be made, as the need arises.
