CREATE A WORRY-FREE WARDROBE

Whether you have full sight or a vision impairment, finding the right outfit in a dark, overcrowded, sloppy closet can be pretty difficult.

You can learn how to recognize clothing by differences in texture, style, buttons, collars and hems. In order to make it easier to recognize color and specific clothing items, you may want to label them with abbreviations such as Y for yellow, R for red or BR for brown in bold dark lettering or with tactile paint on light-colored tags that can be slipped over a hanger or fastened to the piece.

The following tips can make a big difference in setting up your closets and drawers to locate your favorite fashions with ease and confidence.

•  Organize clothing into matching outfits. Place a suit, shirt, tie and slacks on one hanger or several hangers tied together.

•  Keep a flashlight by the closet door to provide more light when reading labels or choosing an outfit.

•  Make a large print label or cut a geometric shape from cardboard or plastic that you can place over a hanger to identify colors.

•  Place adjustable drawer dividers and plastic trays in dressers and cupboards to keep your things in their proper place.
