Dr. Fuentes worked for 17 years at Del Monte Fresh Fruit (Philippines).   He conducted studies on the control of sigatoka and pre-harvest and post-harvest diseases of Cavendish bananas.  During this period, he also handled aerial spray operations and sigatoka control for all the Del Monte contracted operations. 

Upon his retirement in 1996, he became a consultant of Novartis Philippines on the early detection of sigatoka.  He has also been doing consultancy work on sigatoka control in La Frutera, Inc. and other banana plantations in the Philippines.
