I hear a drip drop of water falling into a gutter.
I see a child frown, then smile, but only because I smiled at it.
The child feels no pain.
The child knows no pain, whether physical or emotional.
I know pain.
Pain grips me as I see someone, something, struggling.
I can do nothing, yet I feel everything.
What a stupid waste of time.
Pain should not be dwelled upon.
Pain should not be embraced.
