Braids for the Girls

Braids for the girls Wednesday, April 5, 2000

Waffles with bananas and cream for breakfast, then a short walk over to our first hotel to show Greg. Also toured him past Los Orientales, and La Paloma, both of which I would like to stay at some day. Still don't know where Las Palmas and Villas Mallorca are. Then a quick walk through the market before heading for Barra. The girls really wanted to try surfing, and were going to take the advise of the surfer we had met previously by hanging out at the surfer beach. Wouldn't you know it, today was the first day with no surf! They bought a few gifts for friends, and then we headed for Sea Bastards as Bob and Cindy had renamed their favorite haunt. Two cervasas and I headed home. Never did find Greg.

Greg was supposed to meet us later and watch the girls surf. He hadn't been ready to leave when we did, Greg, the Tourist with his Mexico handbook in his back pocketso the deal was, we'd just meet later in Barra somewhere along the beach. Turns out he got on the wrong bus, and went to La Manzanilla beach again. We asked him "didn't you read the sign on the front of the bus?" to which he replied, "No, I just got on the first bus that came along." Good thing it wasn't going to Guadalahara! He even had his Mexico Handbook tucked into the back of his shorts! And the other goofy thing was, because he was going to watch the girls surfing, he had brought along his lifejacket. We teased him later about the fact that he really isn't all that comfortable in the ocean, and always wears his life jacket. Cindy said "Yeah, he even wears it on the bus!" So we got a lot of mileage out of that!

When I got back from Barra, he had completed his round trip tour and was back on our beach air mattress surfing with Jeff. Guess Jeff caught a few pretty good waves, and had some good rides in.

I bought myself a really cool clay fish today. Right across the street from our hotel. Dad and I bought Mom the last BBQ chicken for her supper, but think the rest of us will head for Ayala tonight.

When we got home, Hugs for Grandma and Grandpa the girls had snagged Isabel to braid their hair. For two weeks this lovely lady had been trying to get Christy to have her hair braided. Then when Stacey and Kelsey arrived she was pretty persistent. We would look at her little booklet of all the ways she could do it, but they kept putting it off. But they finally relented, and Isabel and her daughter set about plaiting corn rows on the three girls. It took almost 2 hours. But the girls look so great. Big hugs for Grandma and Grandpa for springing for the cost.

We set off for tonight's restaurant of choice - Ayala. Closed! Headed down to Surfos - Closed! Outside at Pedros The kids said to heck with this and headed back to guess where.... Cesar y Charleys. The waiter there knows their order by heart now. We decided to eat at a small group of coca cola tables on the street in front of Surfos. It was called Pedros, and this lady made the Best Mexican Food in Melaque! And So Cheap! We ate Alhambras aand Tacos a pastor. We each had a beer, and it was all the food you could eat for around $8.00 Canadian.
