A Little Help From My Friends 9x11
We estimate that this represents a little over half of the total script. As always, this is a very early draft, and anything could change by the time we see the episode. Although we attempt to select our words carefully, please do not become overly concerned with any one word or phrase. ]]]]
*Kovac has a conversation with Ricks mother (the leukemia patient from the previous eppy). Kovac finds her acceptance of the hopelessness of Ricks situation sadder than denial. Kovac admits that they should have done some tests on him sooner. Romano sees him and orders Kovac not to talk to her, and Kovac protests, saying that he can talk to anyone he damn well pleases.
*Lewis treats a man who is brought in after taking five OTC sleeping pills. Hes very depressed and has had insomnia for three days. Lewis finds the source of his depression and that hes been struggling with pedophile tendencies and he knows that its wrong. He states that he was about to do something with his girlfriends son when she walked in on him. Psychologically, hes slipping quickly while Susan urgently tries to get DeRaad down to help.
*Gallant and Kayson treat an eighty-three year-old man who presents with chest pain and shortness of breath which began while having sex with his voluptuous twenty-nine year-old wife. The wife states that they were trying to have a baby. Her husband needs a heart transplant, but both of them are only interested in coupling as soon as possible. The patients grown children show up, one who despises his fathers wife, but the other does not. The wife does not have power of attorney, and she wants to collect a semen sample from her husband. They have a prenup that if she has a child with him, that child will inherit seven million dollars. They seek creative ways to get harvest his semen. Legal is brought in.
*Carter treats a physician who was injured while fighting off some kids who broke into his clinic. After a prolonged wait, the physician shares his opinion of the ERs negative contribution to the state of medicine, critiques Pratts bedside manner, and finally ends up treating himself with the assistance of his partner, a nurse.
*Carter and Pratt treat two Nicaraguan man who are in the country illegally, and who were brought in by a woman who hired them to cut down a tree. One of them had fallen out of a tree. After stating that she was just trying to save some money, she tries to leave after they remove him from the car, without paying them or without sticking around to see the outcome. Pratt attempts to stop her.
*Pratt sets off the metal detectors when he walks into the ER with a gun in his backpack. Apparently, he found it behind a garbage can and was planning to turn it in, or throw it in the river, after his shift. Carter vouches for Pratt when the attending security guard wants to call in the authorities because Pratt was carrying an unlicensed, concealed weapon.
*Weaver treats an eighteen year-old deaf girl, who presents with a bladder infection thats spread to her kidneys. Weaver ascertains that shes sexually active and that her parents dont know. During her shift, Weaver starts cramping and bleeding. Abby is aware of Weaver's situation while she continues to work. When its apparent that shes miscarrying, Weaver asks Abby to get Dr. Maynard to the ER, because she does not want to check in upstairs.
*Chen treats a team of mathletes, who are suffering from taking ritalin before a math tournament.
*Pratt rushes to his apartment finding Leon crying and saying, They got me, G. Hes been beaten and stabbed, but managed to run home. He thinks that hes dying, but Pratt does not.

It's Hard To Be A Saint In The City 9x12
*From Stormwatcher and Freya at The ER Exchange: This represents about one-third of the content for this episode. Remember that the storylines may change by airtime. Dont get too caught up in a particular word choice.
*The ER experiences electrical problems as a County Alderman, hurt in a fall from a stage, arrives with an entourage and inquiring press. Romano, Lewis and Weaver treat him. The alderman seems genuinely concerned about the overload the ER must handle while remarking that he was on the committee that hired Romano and that there are those downtown who had hoped the chopper had taken another part of Romanos anatomy. Weaver and Lewis discover the alderman might have syphilis and Kerry makes a decision to protect the alderman.
*Pratt helps Leon get a job at the hospital and Leon goes off to purchase the needed uniform. Later, Leon gets arrested when he meets up with some unsavory friends and misses his first day at work. Pratt also has an altercation with Susan but seems to impress Carter.
*After treating several patients at the ER, Carter and Abby head off to a charity function where Millicent and Jack will also be in attendance, but are detoured by a call from Dr. McNultys nurse (see an earlier episode) and stop by a free clinic. The nurse thinks the doctor has fallen and Carter tells McNulty that he must treat his diabetes. A small scuffle ensues with some of the clinic patients. But Carter is so moved by the lack of facilities at the clinic that, as he presents a Carter Foundation check towards a new symphony hall, Carter comments on the pressing need to support services that might be more worthy. Millicent is not pleased, and Jack explains what Eleanor said about Millicent in these moments.
*Kerry and Sandy talk about having another baby. Kerry thinks that Sandy might be able to carry a baby to full term as she is younger. Sandy protests that she could not do her firefighters job while pregnant but Kerry counters that Sandy would take leave. Sandy isnt sure that she wants to do that and ends the conversation.
*Luka treats several different patients, but with one, he argues with Kerry about what type of services to provide a woman who is a DNR. He also seems to still be a little miffed about his suspension because he makes a sarcastic remark about nurses. Luka is on duty as the night progresses and the ER gets backed up.
----------------------
*Before Carter/Abby go to the fundraiser they stop off at a rundown free clinic full of indigent patients . Carter is there to see a patient he treated previously at county. Much of what goes on here influences Carter speech later that ticks off Gamma. Abby is wearing a cocktail dress designed by Prada.

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished 9x13
*Spoilers for "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished" from Northern Dancer and Stormwatcher. Remember, this is an early draft and things may change before final editing. This represents only about half the final product.
*Kerry seems to deal with the alderman about some promotional photos, at the urging of Romano. She is perplexed by a remark by the alderman that suggests their relationship may be just beginning. Speculation -- it doesn't seem like she gets in trouble for her decision in the last episode, but I could be wrong.
*Elizabeth, operating on a police officer (see the Pratt storyline) is assisted by Dorsett who flirts with her during the surgery (which she at first finds unnerving, then "distracting" and later asks her out for coffee in full view of Susan and Abby. At first she refuses, but when he leaves, is gently teased by Abby and, finding Dorsett in the lounge, reconsiders. They end up having sex on her living room floor and, after earnestly thanking him, she boots him out the door, suggesting he not call again. Once he is gone she cannot help but smile and clearly does not regret the incident.
*Abby and Susan treat a young boy who his mother explains is being allowed to go through his "simian" stage. The boy attempts to bite Abby and throws feces at Susan (off screen) because "that is what monkeys do", leading to some quick thinking on the part of the female duo. The boy's mother is well-to-do, the kind of client Romano wants to attract to County. After Susan changes into a borrowed sweater from Chen, she and Abby notice stains that show up under the Woods lamp and raucously speculate on their origin -- Pratt, Jerry, or Frank???
*Susan also treats a young man who is a powerlifter and steroid-user. She references her own drinking in their discussion of "exercise."
*Romano is noticing a decreased strength in his left hand, which had, just recently, been better. He supervises a resident who operates on the powerlifter who has an abbess that has spread. The resident makes one mistake, and Romano takes over, making another. He kicks Elizabeth out of the operating room, and it seems, makes the necessary repairs. Later, on the roof, he tries to offer support to the young resident who calls Romano on his own mistake. Romano then stands alone, looking over the edge of the roof as a helicopter passes overhead, reminding him of the night of his accident. He climbs on the ledge on the spur of the moment, contemplates the void and then throws his surgical cap over the edge and spits after it.
*At the end of the episode, Abby meets up with Eric at an airport. He shows her a small plane he has just purchased with everything he has. They talk warmly and he offers to take her for a ride.
*Pratt treats a friend of Leon who has been shot, trying to tell the police that he does not know the circumstances of the event. The GSW victim dies. Speculation: it seems like Pratt brings Leon to the ER to keep him "safe" while Pratt works. Carter questions Pratt why Leon was there, but seems to know that Leon's seeing the work on the GSW was not what upset Leon. Later, Pratt puts Leon on a bus to Baltimore but is upset by this decision.
*Carter still needs more shots for his trip to Africa. There is something Abby wants to ask him but he doesn't answer and says they'll talk at home later. Carter seems to be trying to volunteer at McNulty's free clinic and even Luka offers to take some shifts. Abby does not think this is a good idea and that they are both crazy. At the end of the episode, Carter finds the free clinic abandoned, informed by a police officer that it had been in business only a few weeks, when Carter had thought McNulty had been running it for 20 years. Carter realizes that donated money for the clinic has been stolen.
*Luka. His day begins with a lung cancer victim who threatens to sue the tobacco company and him. Kerry asks what's going on. Luka wonders out loud why everyone in America wants to sue and Frank suggests he can go back to Croatia if he doesn't like it here. He treats a young woman who has caught her hand in a fox trap while demonstrating cruelty to animals and Carter assists. Luka treats a young woman who has fallen down the stairs -- she claims pushed by her boyfriend. The girl is pregnant but is planning an abortion. At first, Kerry and Luka are sympathetic to the girl, and Luka urges her not to have abortion. The girl later indicates that her boyfriend may not be the father and that she can't understand his desire to "have a family." She miscarries and the police arrest the boyfriend. Luka has a change of heart and urges the boyfriend to have a paternity test on the fetus, to Kerry's dismay.
*In a scene that seems to be moved from an earlier episode: Luka tries to catch Erin, saying he hasn't had a chance to talk to her, as she walks away, pointedly reminding him she's been hospitalized for three weeks. He says he's sorry, that he was "going through a bad time" and never meant to hurt her. She says he should have slowed down.
----------------------
*Spoilers from Stormwatcher at TEEx:
*Luka, Susan and Abby treat a young girl who has been intubated in order to pump her stomach. They quiz the girl's friend who admits the patient gorged herself on banana splits over a broken love affair and wanted to purge herself. Luka gets angry at this "eating disorder" because the only eating disorder he knows is when a mother goes hungry in order to fix her kids, and then storms out of the room as Susan calls after him.
*Pratt is questioned by the police about his knowledge of the young man shot in his neighborhood.
*Susan and Abby treat a shy young girl who may have hepatitis. But there will be something more with this patient, perhaps she is a cutter. Susan gives the sweater back to Chen and starts to tell her what is on the sweater.
