It’s been 2 weeks since Carter ask Lucy to marry him and she said yes. Now it’s back to work for her.

Scene Opens:

Lucy enters the ER and it seems quiet for now.

Lucy: Good morning, Jerry, how are you?

Jerry: I’m good. How are you?

Lucy: A lot better thanks for asking.

Jerry: There is a patient in curtain 2 she has been waiting for 2 hours. Could you take her?

Lucy: Sure. I’ll just go hang my coat up.

Jerry: (Taking her coat from her ) I’ll take it for you.

Lucy: Ok thanks Jerry.

Lucy goes to check on the patient. 20 minutes later Lucy comes out, but there is no one around. She enters the lounge.

Everyone: SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!

Lucy: ( Shocked ) What is this ?

Mark: We just wanted to welcome you back and tell you how happy we are you are ok.

Lucy: Thanks everyone. Well it’s nice to be back.

Carol: So how are you really?

Lucy: Great.

Carol: Well I’m glad you’re back we’ll talk about your trip later.

Lucy: Ok ( Malucci gives her a hug )

Malucci: So do you think we could go for that drink now?

Lucy: ( Looking at Carter ) Dave I’m sorry, but now is not the right time. I’m seeing someone.

Malucci: Oh I see . Well if that doesn’t work out call me.

Lucy: I’ll keep you in mind.

Everyone gives Lucy a hug and welcomes her back. They have some cake and head back to work. With everyone gone, Carter and Lucy are the only two left.

Carter: So were you surprised?

Lucy: Yes I was. Did you have anything to do with this?

Carter: No the nurses did it.

Lucy: That was really nice of them.

Carter: ( Looking at her finger ) Where is your ring?

Lucy: ( Pulling a chain out of her shirt ) Right here I just didn’t want anyone to see.

Carter: I can’t do this anymore. ( Grabbing her by the hand and pulling her into the lobby )

Everyone is at the desk. Mark, Weaver, Carol, Jerry etc....

Carter: ( Standing there holding Lucy’s hand ) Can I please have everyone’s attention?

Lucy: Carter what are you doing?

Carter: What I should have done a long time ago? I don’t care anymore.

Lucy: Are you sure?

Carter: I have never been so sure about anything before, but I’m sure about this.

Carter is looking at everyone standing there.

Carter: I have something you all need to hear. I love Lucy and She loves me. I know it’s not right according to hospital policy, but when you love someone policies don’t matter. I almost lost her and I never want to know what that feels like. We have been living together for 7months now. ( Taking the ring off her necklace ) When I asked you to marry me and gave you this ring I never wanted you to take it off. You should never have to hide your ring. ( Putting it back on her finger ) That’s where it belongs ( giving her a kiss ) I hope everyone is ok with this, but if your not too bad I’m sorry.

Everyone gives Lucy and Carter their congratulations.

Weaver: Ok people We can tell them congrats later, but for now get back to work.

End Scene One:

Throughout the day Lucy has been getting congratulations from everyone.

Scene Two:

Carter is working on a patient when Mark calls for him.

Mark: Carter when you have a minute please come to the lounge.

Carter: Sure I’ll be right there.

Mark: Thanks

Carter finish up with his patient and heads to the lounge. When he enters the lounge he sees Lucy sitting at a table with Mark , Kerry and Anspaugh.

Carter: So is this where I get fired for being with Lucy.

Mark: No one is getting fired. Just sit down please.

Weaver: As we all know the hospital policy about dating or having a relationship among Students and Doctors.

Carter: Yes I know that, but ...

Anspaugh: But nothing Dr. Carter you both knew the policy and yet you choose not to do listen to them.

Carter: I’m sorry if you all don’t agree with this and I will do whatever you think I should do, but I will not stop seeing Lucy.

Lucy: Carter maybe we should just stop at least until I’m a doctor.

Carter: NO, I’m not going to do that not for anyone not even for my job.

Mark: Carter you need to listen to us. We have all been talking and we have come to a way everyone can still work together and be happy. You both are very good doctors and we don’t want to lose you guys.

Carter: So what next?

Kerry: You are no longer Lucy’s teacher. We are putting her with Malucci.

Lucy: Great.....

Mark: Is that a problem Lucy.

Lucy: Not really, It’s just that a few times he has asked me out.

Anspaugh: Well then assign her to Dr. Kocav.

Kerry: Ok then Lucy you will work under Luka. We will let him know about the changes.

Lucy: Ok thank you Dr. Greene, Dr. Anspaugh, Dr. Weaver. Is that all? I have some patients.

Mark: Yes Lucy you can go.

As Lucy walks out the door Carter follows.

Mark: We still need to talk to you Carter.

Carter: Ok. ( Telling Lucy he will talk to her later )

Mark: Carter it was crazy the way you dealt with this. You should have talked to me and Kerry before you told the whole ER.

Carter: I can see you are not happy with me.

Kerry: Happy is not the word, but anyways You will be suspended for 2 weeks.

Carter: Starting when?

Mark: After tonight.

Carter: If that’s all I have to deal with I’ll take it.

Anspaugh: Now if that’s all I have surgery in 20 minutes.

Kerry: Yes thank you Donald.

Carter: Thank you Dr. Anspaugh.

Anspaugh: ( As he leaves he turns back to Carter ) By the way Dr. Carter congratulations.

Carter: Thank you.

Weaver: Well there are patients waiting to be seen. Lets get back to work.

They all get back to work.

End Scene Two:

We see Mark talking to Luka about being Lucy’s new teacher.

Scene Three:

Mark: You know the situation with Lucy and Carter.

Luka: Yes

Mark: Well we need you to be Lucy’s teacher.

Luka: Whatever you think is best that will be fine.

Mark: Lucy is a good student and knows what she is doing just keep an eye on her.

Luka: Ok no problem.

Mark: Thanks Luka.

Some time laps and Lucy is seeing to her patient.

Lucy: Hello Mrs. Barnes. I’m Lucy Knight and I see you haven been feeling yourself this week.

Mrs. Barnes: No I think I have the flu. I have been sleepy and achey all over.

Lucy: Is there any chance you could be pregnant.

Mrs. Barnes: No after my fourth child I got my tubes tied.

Lucy: Do you work?

Mrs. Barnes: Yes, but I haven’t been in the last two days because I haven felt well.

Lucy: Have you had any vomiting?

Mrs. Barnes: No I have felt dizzy.

Lucy: Ok it seems as though it is stress related. We will run so blood test just to be sure.

Mrs. Barnes: Thank you Doctor.

Lucy: Lydia I need a chem7 and CBC and let me know when the test results back.

Lydia: I let you know when it comes back Lucy.

End Scene Three:

Lydia takes the blood from Mrs. Barnes and sends it to the lab.

Scene Four:

Luka is looking for Lucy. While Carter is looking for Lucy also.

Luka: Lydia have you seen Lucy?

Lydia: Last time I seen her she was in the lounge.

Luka: Thanks

Luka enters the lounge to see if Lucy is there.

Luka: Here you are?

Lucy: Yes, what’s wrong.

Luka: I just wanted to know how things are going for you today?

Lucy: Things are good. I was just going to come look for you. I wanted you to look at this chart she is a patient. She came in with flu like symptoms. So I ran some blood work.

Luka: Let me see the chart. ( handing him the chart ) What do you think?

Lucy: Blood count is real low. I’m afraid it’s Leukemia.

Luka: That’s what it looks like.

Lucy: Great I can’t believe I need to go through this again.

Luka: If you want me to take care of telling her for you. I know how hard this is for you.

Lucy: No I can do this really. It just brings up so memories.

Luka: Ok just let me know if you need any help.

Lucy: Thanks Dr. Kovac.

Luka leaves to go check on his patients while Lucy sits and trys to figure out how she will break the news to Mrs. Barnes.

End Scene Four:

As Lucy is sitting in the lounge Carter enters.

Scene Five:

Carter: Hey sweetie.

Lucy: Hey

Carter: What’s wrong?

Lucy: I’m just getting ready to go tell a mother of 4 she had Leukemia.

Carter: So you were just thinking of Megan.

Lucy: Yeah, I haven’t talked to her since we left.

Carter: Then call her. Anyways you have some good news to tell her and I know she is anxious to hear it.

Lucy: So that was the big secret you too had on me.

Carter: Guilty.

Lucy: Oh I see. I think I will call her.

Cater: Good. Well I need to get back to work.

Lucy: Hey what happen after I left you with Mark and Kerry.

Carter: Don’t worry about that now.

Lucy: Ok, but you will tell me later. For now I need to go see Mrs. Barnes.

Carter: Ok I’ll see you later. ( Giving her a kiss )

Lucy exits to talk to Mrs. Barnes.

Lucy: Sorry for the wait Mrs. Barnes.

Mrs. Barnes: I thought you forgot about me.

Lucy: No I just wanted to go over your chart with another Doctor.

Mrs. Barnes: That can’t be good.

Lucy: I’m sorry Mrs. Barnes it’s not good, but it can be treated.

Mrs. Barnes: Cancer?

Lucy: Yes It’s Leukemia. They will want to run more test.

Mrs. Barnes: ( Crying ) How long do I have.

Lucy: It’s not a matter of how long you have. Once they run the other tests then they will go from there. You will more then likely need bone marrow.

Mrs. Barnes: So there is hope?

Lucy: Yes there is always hope. I should know. My half sister had the same thing and needed bone marrow. I was a match and she is doing great now.

Mrs. Barnes: Thank you.

Lucy: Would you like to call your husband? You will need to stay for more test. Also the oncologist will want to see you before you leave.

Mrs. Barnes: Thank you Doctor.

Lucy exits the room to go call the oncologist.

End Scene Five:

After making her call to the doctor for Mrs. Barnes she gets ready to go home.

Final Scene:

Lucy: Ok charts are signed and I’m going home.

Jerry: Ok see you tomorrow, And congratulation again.

Lucy: Thanks Jerry. Have you seen Carter?

Jerry: Curtain 3.

Lucy heads to see Carter as she passes Mrs. Barnes getting her test watching her husband holding her hand. Just then Carter walks up to Lucy.

Carter: Is she okay?

Lucy: ( Turning to him ) Do you know how much I love you?

Carter: About as much as I love you. You off now.

Lucy: Yes.

Carter: I have 2 more hours left. You want to wait for me.

Lucy: Yeah I’ll wait for you in the lounge.

Carter: Ok I’ll see you in a bit.

Lucy: Okay.

In the lounge Lucy sits waiting for Carter.

Lucy: ( Picking up the phone ) Is Megan there?

Megan: This is.

Lucy: Hi Megan this is Lucy.

Megan: Hi how are you?

Lucy: I’m good. How are you?

Megan: Great. I went back to school today.

Lucy: I’m so glad to hear that. I have so news.

Megan: Carter asked you right.

Lucy: Yes he did and I of course said yes.

Megan: I told him you would.

Lucy: Now you know we need to talk about you coming to be in the wedding. When we set a date.

Megan: You should have a Spring wedding. It’s so nice that time of the year.

Lucy and Megan talk for sometime. We see a smile on Lucy’s face.
