Scene Opens:

Dr. Bellen walks into the room to give Lucy some good news.

Dr. Bellen: Well good morning Miss. Knight . Are you ready to go home?

Lucy: Yes as soon as I can would be great with me.

Dr. Bellen: Well I just sign your discharge paper.

Carter: That’s great so we can go back to Chicago now.

Dr. Bellen: Yes, I just want you to take it easy for a few more days and follow up with your doctor when you get back to Chicago.

Lucy: Ok doctor and thank you again.

Carter: I’ll make sure she does what you said.

Dr. Bellen: Take it easy Miss. Knight. It was really nice meeting you.

Dr. Bellen exits the room.

Carter: Well if you are ready we can go.

Lucy: I’m ready I just want to call Megan’s room and check on her.

Carter: Ok I’ll pull the car around and I’ll have the nurse bring you down.

Lucy: Ok John , but I have one thing do I have to use the wheelchair?

Carter: Yes and that’s that.

Carter gives Lucy a kiss on the forehead and leaves to get the car.

Lucy: ( Putting up the phone ) Hi it’s Lucy how is Megan doing?

Melissa: Real good.

Lucy: Well I’m being released today before we go back to Chicago I’ll come to see Megan.

Melissa: That’s fine

Lucy: Is Jack there?

Melissa: No.

Lucy: Could you give him a message for me.

Melissa: Sure.

Lucy: Could you let him know I would like to meet him tonight. I’m staying at the Hilton. There is a restaurant in the hotel could he please meet me there at 8:00.

Melissa: I’ll be sure to tell him and I’m sure he will be there.

Lucy: Thank you.

Lucy finishes getting her things together and the nurse takes her to meet Carter.

End Scene One:

Lucy and Carter are at the hotel.

Scene Two:

Carter: Is there anything you want?

Lucy: ( Putting her arms around him ) Yes.

Carter: Luce you just got home from the hospital. Do you think you’re up for that?

Lucy: The question is Dr. Carter are you up for it? ( Kissing him on the neck )

Carter: Oh believe me I’m up for it. ( Taking her into his arms and carrying her to the bed. )

End Scene Two:

Carter and Lucy are in bed talking.

Scene Three:

Carter: Are you feeling ok?

Lucy: I’m fine really .

Carter: I jus don’t want to push up.

Lucy: If I remember correctly I pushed up.

Carter: Well I could have said no.

Lucy: ( Getting up from the bed ) Now could you have said no to me.

Carter: ( smiling ) No.

Lucy: I’m glad to know I still have it. I’m going to take a shower.

Carter: Ok. I’ll call and make reservations for tomorrow.

Lucy: Ok.

Carter: (On the Phone ) I need to tickets to Chicago from Michigan.

Just then Lucy comes rushing out of the bathroom.

Lucy: John hang up.

Carter: What?

Lucy: Just hang up.

Carter: ( Hanging up the phone ) Ok now do you want to tell me why I just hung up on that lady.

Lucy: Ok now this is just a thought. What if we drive back? You don’t have to be back to work until Saturday.

Carter: Drive.. Well I guess we could do that it’s only about a 5 hour drive. Okay we’ll drive.

Lucy: ( Giving him a kiss ) Great.

Carter: Did you finish your shower?

Lucy: Never got in.

Carter: Really ( Picking her up and carrying her to the shower )

Lucy: John it’s almost 8 I have to get ready.

Carter: Well I can be fast.

Lucy: Well you don’t have to be that fast.

They make their way into the shower.

End Scene Three:

It’s 7:30 and Lucy is getting ready to meet her father.

Scene Four:

Lucy: Ok how’s this one?

Carter: You look fine and you looked fine the last four times.

Lucy: Are you sure? I don’t want to come off bad.

Carter: Sweetie look you are going to do fine. Just be yourself and he will love you. I should know that’s why I fell in love with you.

Lucy: Thank you. Well I guess I should go.

Carter: Are you sure you don’t want me to go with you?

Lucy: No really I’ll be ok thank you for being here with John I know I could not have done any of this with out you. Ok wish me luck.

Carter: You wont need it. ( Giving her a kiss. )

Lucy goes to meet her father.

Lucy enters the restaurant looking for her father. Then she realizes she doesn't even know what her looks like.

Lucy: I’m waiting for a Jack Johnson. Could you tell me if he has arrived.

Hostess: ( Checking the book ) Yes he at table 26 in the corner in the back.

Lucy: Thank you

As Lucy walks to the table she takes a deep breath.

Lucy: Jack

Jack: ( Standing up ) Lucy thank you for meeting with me.

Lucy: Your welcome.

Jack: So how are you feeling?

Lucy: I’m doing good. How is Megan?

Jack: Megan is doing really good thanks to you.

Lucy: Well I don’t want to take all the credit she was a very strong little girl.

Jack: Well sit down I’m sure you have a lot of questions for me.

Lucy: Not really , I guess I only have one . Why?

Jack: Well that's the big one. I was 17 when Barbara got pregnant with you. I don’t thing you want me to lie.

Lucy: No I would like to know the truth.

Jack: I wasn’t ready to be a dad and I really didn’t think I could do it. I was scared. So I didn’t think it would have been fair to you or your mother if I had stayed and then left.

Lucy: I would you have known it would work if you didn’t even give it a chance.

Jack: I can’t take back what happened in the past. All I can do is work on the here and now.

Lucy: That’s right I know it had to be hard, but I don’t have one more question.

Jack: Ok what is it?

Lucy: If Megan didn’t get sick or if your other children didn’t match her. Would you have come looking for me?

Jack: Lucy that’s not important.

Lucy: Yes it is I want to know. I need to know.

Jack: Lucy I have always thought about you. I wanted to know about you.

Lucy: You are not answering the question. Would you have looked for me if it wasn’t for Megan?

Jack: I don’t think so.

Lucy: Thank you for being honest with me. ( Getting up from the table ) Please tell Megan I’ll come to see her before I leave tomorrow.

Jack: Please don’t leave we need to talk about this.

Lucy: There is nothing to talk about. I need to go.

Lucy walks away and makes her way upstairs to the room.

End Scene Four:

As Lucy makes her way to the room she stopped to look out the window with tears running down her cheek. Carter walks up.

Final Scene:

Carter: What’s wrong?

Lucy: ( wiping her tears away ) What are you doing here?

Carter: Do you know what time it is?

Lucy: No

Carter: It’s 10:30 I got worried when you didn’t get back and went looking for you and saw you here.

Lucy: I’m sorry I didn’t realize what time it was.

Carter: It’s ok what happened?

Lucy: ( Crying ) John I thought it was going to be a meeting of a lifetime , but I was wrong.

Carter: I’m sorry sweetie. I wish I could say something to make it better.

Lucy: I was crazy to think he would have say anything else. I should have known the only reason he went looking for me was because of Megan.

Carter: I’m sorry it’s hurting so bad.

Lucy: It’s my own fault if I didn’t want to know I shouldn’t have asked.

Carter: No it was not your fault you had every right to know the truth.

Lucy: I know . Lets to bed we have a long drive ahead of us tomorrow.

Carter: Ok sounds good to me.

Back in bed Lucy turns to Carter.

Lucy: John I love you.

Carter: I love you too.
