Rating: PG
Spoilers: None
Disclaimer: I do not own these characters, NBC does unfortunately.
Author's Notes: 1) The title has no bearing on the content, it's just the name of a piano piece my brother's mate was playing when I thought of the idea. 2) I know the song words in fic are very cliché by now, but hell I like it so there you go. 3) Any constructive criticism is welcome, if it's just bitchy then don't bother. The song used is `Heaven From Here` by Robbie Williams.

Know no fear I'll still be here tomorrow
Bend my ear I'm not gonna go away
You are love so why do you shed a tear?
Know no fear you will see heaven from here

Jing Mei stared at the ceiling, her eyes watching the flickering shadows with vague interest. Her dark hair fell around her face, and she covered her modesty with a thin white sheet.

She turned her head and looked at him. He was sleeping - their activities obviously had exhausted him - and she smiled fondly.

Before that night she had never looked at him like that, but now she savoured the opportunity to stare.

His eyes were closed, but she knew those dark, alluring eyes so well by now that it did not matter. Long eyelashes framed his eyes, making him look almost angelic in his unconscious state.

His bone structure was powerful and refined - just like him. His skin was smooth, and tinged with pink. She reached out, gently caressing his cheek. He was so delicate.

The same could be said about him emotionally. He had been through a lot - they both had - and she could see he was still wary of raw emotion, of letting instinct take over.

That's where it had all began. They had sat on her couch, and told the truth. She told of how she missed her son, how the aching in her heart for him was unbearable. And he had spoken of hearts too. Broken, beaten, bruised.

And from there?

She had leant over him to pick up her wine glass, and their bare arms had brushed against each other. It was almost as if electricity had passed between them, an unspoken connection so great that it sent their minds in to turbulence, and they kissed.

Then passion took over.

And that was the last thing she remembered. It had all gone by in a blur, and she finally got the chance to look back when he was asleep and she stared at the dancing shadows on the ceiling.

She recognised that feeling.

It was happiness.

*****
I'll shelter you, make it alright to cry
And you'll help too 'cos the faith in myself has run dry
We are love and I just wanna hold you near
Know no fear we will see heaven from here

She had never intended for it to happen. She loved him dearly as a friend. But that night had made clear that friendship was not on either of their agendas.

She had so many memories of them as friends that it seemed odd when he first held her in his arms, when he kissed her.

She had thought their history would have been a hindrance, a curse on the already doomed relationship. She was wrong.

She thought that their past relationship troubles would be enough of a caution to them. She was wrong.

She had thought their emotional baggage, put together, would weigh them down. She was wrong.

And for once she loved being wrong. She loved that their history brought them closer, she loved that their past relationships brought them closer, she loved that their baggage brought them closer. She loved it all. And she loved him.

She loved him?

This was a surprise. She hadn't realised till now, and it came like a bolt from the blue. And she had never felt more certain.

She leant over quietly, kissed his cheek, and whispered so quietly that he did not stir.

"I love you John."

*****
Well it all seems out of reach
I will take the blame if it keeps the peace
My shelf life's short
Which will make it more easy to follow
And I've been caught with nothing but love on my mind
We are love don't let it fall on deaf ears
Now it's clear
We have seen heaven from here
