The original gold coloured Kawasaki Mach IV 1972, a 3 cylinder two stroke 750 CC superbike
The machine I found in Amsterdam, in a rather deplorable state (click on the image to enlarge). The engine nr is H2 E17788, which dates it to 1972. According to the official Kawasaki information, the colour should be gold. After investigating the underside ot the fuel tank this proved to be the case, and therefore it will be restored to the original colour scheme
At the Pont du Gard, spring 2000
Facing the glacier, Alpes Maritimes summer 1998
All 3 cylinder heads were removed, even as the exhaust pipes, fuel tank, seat, air filter, carburators et cetera. The cranck was stuck, the engine carter soaked with rain, dead leaves and other junk. Nevertheless I found most of the removed and missing parts in 2 crates, so restoration will be possible. Therefore I've started to disassemble the whole lot, in order to check what needs to be done first. For more information visit the Kawasaki H2 restoration page,
Again the engine, removed from the chassis
The picture on the left shows my 1989 VT1100 Twin., manufactured by the Honda company in the United States. It is a very reliable and forgiving bike, that did some 40.000 miles, of which 28.000 since it was in my possession. It's origin lies in the US or Canada, and therefore it's equipped with the original four speed gear box, mileage speedometer and red reflectors on the sides.
The Engine and the damage done
As a tradition every year in springtime or summer the road takes me to the southern parts of Europe ( France, Italy, Spain), but also I've visited during the summer the Normandy Beaches. La France is a very biker-friendly country, and with for instance Camping Moto at Montclar sur Gervanne as home- base magnificent rides are possible to the Mediterranean, Provence, Vaucluse, Alpes Maritimes and many more beautiful places.
