| Alternative Bulldog Registration Agency |
| Wecome to ABRA. We have been working with, breeding and studying Alternative Bulldogs for nearly 15 years now. We're not the ultimate experts and we are happy to collaborate with other registration agencies, breeders, vets or anyone else who would like to get involved. What we are is concerned about the amount of dogs being advertised as 'alternative bulldogs' when really they are nothing more than a standard cross breed. It takes dedication, time and money to produce a 'new' breed (or recreate an old one). There are many alternative breeds available and our aim is to bring some order, standardisation and legitimacy to the proceedings. Most of the established breeders will happily issued certificates for those pups they produce. Our certificates are designed to back up breeder claims and to offer catergorisation for dogs not certificated, But be aware, we only certificate dogs that meet the standard, if we are unable to produce a certificate for you we will register your dog as an alternative bulldog provided you have a traceable family tree. If you are interested in breeding or would like to know what your dog is, if you just agree that there should be recognition for other bulldogs, then this is the place for you. |
| Empire Bulldog registered kennel ; IC. Bulldogs (must be progeny of registered dog/bitch) There is some controversy over whether this bulldog should be seperated from other old english, however, due to the amazing size of some of the males that I have seen I have agreed that they should stand alone. With co operation from the breeder, and those lucky enough to have secured a pup from this exclusive source, we hope, in the next 6 -12 months, to have a better idea of the size/weight range and to pin down a description of appearance that fits only the best of the breed. AD administrator for ABRA Height Weight Male: varies between 5 stone in the smallest specimen to 7 stone in the largest specimen seen. This may change and become a smaller range as we see more of this breed. Female : 5 to 6 stone. Eyes. There is a tendendancy for marked differences in the male and female. The eyes of the male are small and slitted, reminisant of the Bull Terrier. Appearance: Rather like a small mastiff in appearance these bulldogs are rare and likely to remain that way as the original progenitor is now deceased. However, there are two potential males still to be tested and therefore it may be that we will see more of these dogs in the future. The males are large, heavy and very deep chested. The head and muzzle should both be rounded, the ears folded and small. Skin loose, particularly around the muzzle throat and shoulders, muzzle and shoulders light to medium wrinkling. Throat baggy through to heavy wrinkling. Feet: We mention feet here because again there is a marked difference between the sexes The females have dainty feet but with long spreadable catlike toes. The males have overlarge feet, lion like in fact, with long spreadable toes. The males feet are remarkable and often commented on. They are not an indication of future size in the puppies. |

| Gentlemans Bulldog "I cannot see myself with an oriental fancy such as my lady carries. It sits on her lap and if it did but purr it would be mistaken for a cat..." "such a noise it made, believe the DEVIL himself would have run from the scolding fury..."(the lapdog, perhaps a peke, suprising a'robber' in the Lady's carriage makes the victorian gentleman think again about getting himself a dog.)... "My man travels with a bulldog, a monstrous brute in size and appearance...." "No gentleman would be seen with such.." "only villans and pursuers of villans.." " appearance and size can be altered to make the cur appear more gainly perhaps it's manners would improve accordingly... from a victorian novel of unknown title and authorship, unfortunately the book is badly damaged, and we never get to find out whether the uncertain gentleman ever got himself a dog. We use the title 'Gentlemans Bulldog as a pseudonym for the 'Victorian'. If you have a genuine bred Victorian Bulldog it will already be registered as such with the Victorian Bulldog Association as they have strict rules and guidelines about tracking eligible puppies. If your 'Victorian Bulldog' is not registered with the VBA or VBF and did not come with a traceble family tree it is not genuine! However, if your bulldog meets the standard but is not eligible for registration it may be registered here as a Gentlemans Bulldog.
