So, 2003!  Funny having a NYE in the summer. It took me a few days to realize it was actually 2003 now.  So what did I do?  Paul, Carla and I went to a party in Neutral Bay. We were the only foreigners amongst about 20 really nice aussies.  From the unit we could see the fireworks very well, and we had a really great night!  Not a late one for me, as the wine seemed to go straight to my head.

The weather on the  first of January was awful. It was raining most of the day.  Such a shame. The museum I wanted to visit was closed, so all I did was walk around town a bit, had a coffee, read the paper and made my way to Carla and Paul's at the end of the day.  Two GT's helped me getting rid of my hangover and a wonderful roast did the rest.

Thursday was Phil's last day in Oz (or at least for now, he's off to NZ for two months). We'd planned a proper farewell, but as he'd been to the cricket and had started drinking at 10 am, he was completely shitfaced by the time we saw him. Him and Paul were good fun though, singing songs and being a bit touchy-feely.  Phil was sad about leaving us, but London-Amsterdam isn't that far away, so it'll be easy to stay in touch.

Yesterday I joined the Barmy Army for my first cricket match!  Such a good day it was!  I loved it. All the singing, the good atmosphere, drinking beers, great day.  The English did surprisingly well, which made it even better!  We were sitting on Yabba's Hill, the Barmy Army hill.  Some of the boys who had entertained us on X-mas day with their cricket were now wearing nothing but red Speedo's and a swimming cap. Very funny.

And another Saturday morning!  I'd planned to go to Cronulla for the weekend, but the weather's pretty lousy so decided to stay here.

Had a busy and nice week!  Monday night Ciaran and I saw Sticky, an English production that was part of  the Sydney Festival. Very beautiful to see with great sound and light effects and fireworks, all on the forecourt if the Opera House.

Another great thing in Sydney summer are the Moonlight Cinema, so Caro and I had planned to see Buena Vista Social Club on Wednesday night.  Rain and storm pretty much killed the plan.  We went to a Thai in Bondi instead with some Irish friends of Caro, so had a good night anyway.

One of the pre-tournaments to the Australian Open is held here in Sydney, eandThursday night Caro, Sandi and I went tot the Olympic Park to watch Lindsay Davenport beat some Slovakian girl (close call, great match) and Wayne Ferreira whip Sqiller's arse.  Most boring game ever.  Really glad we went there, the girls match was just fantastic and it was nice seeing a bit of the Olympic Park.

Yesterday Carla had her last day at Baker's so we went out for drinks with her boss and colleagues and later on had pizza with the people we celebrated NYE with.  I had a quiet one though.

Not much else is going on, really.  Work is back to normal after a few hectic weeks, the weather has been utterly disappointing (again) and I am still enjoying myself every day!

I am sooooo proud of myself.  It looks like I've finally made up my mind on the start of my travels!  Will book tomorrow, so there's a slight chance I'll change my mind again, but.....it looks like I'll fly to Perth on the 24 of February, then to Melbourne on the 9th of March to stay with a friend for a little while. In WA (double-u-ay) I will be doing a bit of touring in the southwest and spend a few days on the beach.  Hey, a girl needs a holiday within her holiday!

I am updating my diary while watching the news.  The  bushfires in Canberra look awful.  The firestorm looks worse than any of the fires I've seen on tele so far.  Must be absolutely frightening.

I am still in Sydney, far away from these fires.  Saturday I had one of the best days here so far.  In the morning, Jeannette, her brother, some other bloke and I took the train down to Cronulla to see the sand sculpture exhibition and go to the beach. It was a very, very hot day and being in the water was just lovely.  At 6ish, I joined Ciaran and his friends in the Domain for Symphony in the Domain. I was very lucky, as they'd kept a good spot for me.  For a few hours, we just chatted and relaxed and got some food and wine. At 8 the concert started and it

was absolutely fantastic.  The music was just great and the surroundings stunning.  Picture a big stage in the center, the CBD skyline on the right and the Art Gallery of NSW and the botanic gardens on the left.  Hundreds of bats were flying above our heads.  A night to remember forever.

Sunday was a relax day.  At night I met with Cecile and her French gang and Caro with the Irish friends and we saw The Big Blue in Centennial Park Moonlight Cinema. Great experience, lying under a blanket in the open air and watching this beautiful movie on a big screen.  Lovely lovely!
