23 November

And another week has gone by.....time flies!  Haven't been up to much really, worked 40 hours, which was good, went out for dinner on Tuesday at a really nice and trendy Malaysian restaurant on Cockle Bay Wharf.  Last night Jeannette gave a barbie at her place in Redfern. Was really good. She made some great salads and a surinam coconut desert and the guests brought friends, alcohol and meat. Phil, Ciaran, Paul and Carla came along, and we had a really good time. A very international group (Scottish, Austrian, Hungarian, Aussie, Dutch, Irish, Canadian and some more).  Phil and I brought a 4-liter cask of red wine and managed to finish that before midnight (with a little help from our friends).  We listened to Acda & De Munnik and Postmen and just had a marvelous night. As Phil lives all the way up in Manly he crashed at our couch. For some weieieieierd reason, I woke up at six and when I decided to make a tea at seven, Phil turned out to be awake as well. It was just really nice having a friend staying over, have tea and coffee together, read the Saturday newspaper, really reminded me of Saturday mornings with Madelon.  We met with Ciaran for a big english breakfast and just sat in the cafe till noon. Lovely!

Saturday night both Ingeborg and Madelon called, thanks girls!

A hungover day today, so a good day to update the website. My life seems to evolve around food and alcohol (still in that order) these days.  Can't tell much about work, it's pretty boring. However, the colleagues I have are really very nice, and so is the weekly check.  Just do my thing, and that seems to work.  So what happened since last week?

I've been a good girl early in the week. Thursday was the first big night, the X-mas party of Geoffrey Nathan. Get 200 backpackers together, provide free booze from 6 to 9 pm and guaranteed the night will be a succes!  We had a great time.
Went home at 11, as I had to work the next day (unfortunately I wasn't so sensible yesterday, but will get to that later). Friday I had to work 'till 7, which sucked. Went to see Harry Potter with Wendy, great movie!  Having recovered on Saturday morning, I met Ciaran in Newtown for brekkie.  Sat down at the theatre cafe beforehand to write in my diary, where I bumped into a Tasmanian ex-colleague from TNT in Holland. Small, small world. He doesn't even live in Sydney.  Saturday night was quiet. Had a lovely Japanese dinner with Paul and Carla at Woollomoolo wharf, and had a beer afterwards with them and Cecile and Frederic. Just relaxed. Skipped the party Cecile had invited me to, as I was pretty tired and cold.  It had actually pured down a few hours earlier, just when I had decided to be a good girl and walk to Woo instead of taking the bus. Not very clever. Was soaking wet.

As Paul and Carla love their food as much as I do, we agreed to have lunch at the fishmarket on Sunday. Fantastic, can't get enough of that place. Sat down on Darling Harbour afterwards for desert. There was a desert cafe, ghreat invention.  Just a very cheerful, relaxed afternoon. Just love Darling Harbour in the weekend, it's really lively without being too busy.   Last night, Carla and I had a girlie night, ate the swordfish steaks we'd bought at the market, nice salad, bottle of wine, perfect.  Afterwards we were summoned to join Paul and Phil in Scruffy Murphys. Alright then, if they start twisting arms... Phil and I managed to miss our ferry and train, as we were having a very, very good time, so ended up staying at Paul and Carla's. Him in the bed, me on the couch (what did I do wrong here?).  Wasn't very happy to go to work this morning... In the same smelly clothes, and with a hangover. Ouch.  Luckily I had stuff to keep me busy without any human contact. Although according to my colleague it never shows when I am hungover (this worries me slightly, I must admit).
10 December

It's pouring down with rain outside, great for the farmers and nature, not so nice for the Sydneysiders!  I just can't understand the weather here. After some very hot days and the most severe bush fires in 30 years, it is now raining and cold.  A good thing, 'cause the fires were absolutely horrible. We had planned to go to the Hunter Valley last weekend, but cancelled because the Pacific Highway was closed due to the fires and there were fires in the Valley as well. My colleague Caroline suggested we'd go to Jervis Bay instead, which we did, as we all needed to get out of the city. The weekend was just lovely. We stayed in a Caravan Park in Huskisson. Spent hours on the beach playing runners and cricket (according to Paul I was bad enough to play for England) and tanning. We drove through a national park, stopped at a winery for lunch and devonshire tea and stopped at Seven Mile Beach on our way home. I felt totally happy, enjoying beautiful nature and good food with fantastic company.  The area is famous for whales, dolphins and roo's. We managed to spot one kangaroo, which actually could have been a wallaby. Bummer.
