NIKITA'S TRIALS
Nikita always excelled in jumping. Never knocking a rail (in the beginning)
Our first trial was in November '97. It was held in Calgary, Ab. at the fezdome. With the way it went I was ready to quit. If it hadn't of been for the support I got from my friends in the club and for one of the judges, Dee (has alaskan malamutes) I probably would have. Out of the 8 rounds we ran we were disquailfied 5 for leaving the ring, and not returning. She thought sniffing around the stalls and extra equipment was much more fun. She thought she could do her own thing in snooker so we didn't get far there. In team she had an elimination of her own, which was highly embarrasing. The last round we only got to continue on because I think that the judge was feeling sympathic and Nikita finally remembered what the word heal meant.
The next trial we entered was 9 months later. It was a N.A.D.A.C. trial held in springbank, outdoors. Nikita did exceptionally well considering how our last experience went. She qualified 5 of the 8 times. Giving her, her NJC, 1 leg of gamblers and 2 legs towards her regular title. Two weeks later we returned to an A.A.C. trial and came away with 1 fourth place ribbon in team. She was running the course clean but our time was out to lunch.
Nikita was never quick in the weeves but she was very thoughtful concentrating on each pole.
We continued to trial in N.A.D.A.C. traveling to Lloyminster next, Nikita finished off her novice titles and moved into open for her next trial.
Nikita was never an overly fast dog, many times running the round clear but over in time. But on occassion she would have a sudden burst of energy and would take off on her own little course, doing every obstacle but the one required. She always liked to do something amusing for the crowd at least once in a trial, be it purposefully knocking the bars off the jumps with her nose or flinging horse puckies around the areana she loved to get the crowd laughing.
In February '00 we returned to A.A.C. where Nikita received 3 legs of regular (unfortunately all under the same judge) 1 leg of snooker and a leg in snooker. We ran into a problem with the judge for the next couple of trials as it never changed and we could not go any further under this judge. Finally in Sept.'00 we got our ADC.
In our next trial we ran in advanced and got 1 leg in gamblers. And the course times had come back into to play. Unfortunately though the last trial we ran was in February '01.
