"DANCER"
Ursus Dancing Lights
Dancer was the first registered Siberian I had. I had gotten her with the hopes of entering her into conformation, obedience and finally agility. She was born on March 18, 1997 and I brought her home at eight weeks old. Dancer was a very friendly little girl who was quite happy to sit in anyones lap. We completed puppy school and two sets of obedience while attending some handling classes. The first show I entered with Dancer was a disaster. I had never shown a dog and didn't quite know what to do. All I had for grooming purposes was a greyhound comb and a slicker brush. It didn't help that our first show also happened to be the rocky mountain siberian specialty. Needless to say we didn't do overly well. The next show came 5 months later in May '98. Dancer though decided she didn't want to stand for the judge and began "blowing" her coat the week before the show. Now she looked very shaggy and lost the look of her top line.
We weren't doing very well and I spoke to a friend at the show about our problem, she proceeded to cut the coat to try and level the top line knowing that this was wrong I made her take her into the ring. No luck! In june of '98 I got a call from the breeder with bad news, it was discovered that there were cataracts in the lines that were coming out in previous line matches. A week later I took Dancer to the vet, all confident that my girl was fine, only to have my dreams shattered, she did in fact have them. That was the end of our show career and ended the possibilities of agility. I then understood why she never caught on to the weeve poles, because of the positioning of the cataracts she couldn't see them. As for all other equipment she was fine. In october '98 I found Dancer a home with some friends in Strathmore that just wanted a pet. Dancer to this day is still there and is spoiled rotten.
