Jack's Froggery
D. Azureus
D. Azureus - Blue Dart Frog
This was the first dart species of my collection. So far it has proven quite hardy, not requiring any extra heat, room temperature + Light (for the plants) has worked well for them. They do enjoy a well planted tank though. When I kept them in a tank with no background, lacking solid areas to hide, they were much more reclusive than they are now in a more forested tank. Strange as it is to say, when they have more cover to hide in, they don't seem to feel the need to use it and are almost always out in the open.

Colour is fairly consistant with very bright blue for most of the body fading to darker points. The whole body is covered in black spots. There is some variation though, as some individuals/strains will only have a fine peppering of spots, whereas others will have very large spots, and then others will have a mix of both. This is also one of the bigger darts with adults being about 4 or 5cm.
