| D. Auratus "Costa Rica Green & Black" Green & Black Dart Frog This is the second dart species I've added to my collection. I decided early on that I was going to collect vibrant, bold coloured frogs and to try for contrasting frogs, not ones so similar you need a lens to decipher the difference between them. This is another good sized frog with adults being around 4cm. I have found them to be quite flighty when being handled, but when left to their own devices they are actively exploring/patrolling their tank. Colour and pattern can be a bit variable in this morph. The base colour is a shiny metallic mint green, but some individuals show a bit more blue, others decidedly greener. The black markings can range from clear black with few individuals' markings being tinted with rusty brown particularly near the heads. Patterning can be very different from frog to frog, but involves about a 50/50 colour marbleing. Often times there is a bullseye on their throat. My group consists of 2 differnet lines, and i'm hoping to get some eggs in the summer of 2008, if i'm lucky! |
