Plants & Supplies for Sale
Welcome to the exotic world of Carnivorous Plants! Many people think these beasts come from the steamy rainforest and are difficult to grow. Nothing can be farther from the truth! Infact, many can be grown outside in bog gardens and will survive cold Canadian winters. Others are easy to grow on window sills or can be used to furnish your terrarium safely alongside frogs and many other pets. Just about anywhere theres good light they can be grown. They do like their humidity but there are easy ways around that. The only other general requirement they have is their water needs to be pure, that means either rain water, distilled or anyother non-chlorinated, low/non mineral water.
Venus Fly Trap (Dionaea) - The Most universally popular CP, famous for its fast movement and spectacular traps. It grows from a bulb underground, and is suitable for seasonal use in a tank, or windowsill, but does require a winter rest period, which makes it ideal for outdoor gardens with winter protection. Recommended for use with animals not small enough for it to eat.
Sundews (Drosera) - This diverse group of plants come in all shapes and sizes, everything from large forking binata complex, to the petite pygmie sundews. The great thing about this group of plants is that there is a sundew suitable for every use. The plants have varuiys shaped and sized leaves, but true for all is that each leaf is covered in tenticals that have a glue to catch and digest insects.
North American Pitcher Plants (Sarracenia) - This hardy group of plants come in a range of sizes, colours and forms, and are best suited to be grown outside year round. Adult sizes range from under 6" to over 3' depending on species and form, and come in a wide array of colours including reds, whites, greens and even blacks, and all colours inbetween.
Tropical Pitcher Plants (Nepenthes) - These unique plants come from tropical regions such as Borneo. Each leaf ends in a tendril that turns into a pitcher. Some are quite tiney being only an inch or so where as others can be massive measureing more then a foot! Colouring can be solid, spotted, splashed, red black, green, purple... The combinations are endless! Many make great additions to terrariums or windowsill plants, or seasonally outdoors.
