RESEARCH
Presently the faculty of the Department is
involved in research activities on various topics of computer
science, application and related fields. The topics include
Computer Algebra, Algorithm Design and Analysis, Knowledge based
Systems, Artificial Neural Networks, Simulations modeling,
Management Information Systems, Data Mining.
One of the research groups is developing knowledge representation
and reasoning (KRR) system for the representation of knowledge
associated with natural language dialogue. This system is based
on the new approach called 'prepositional semantic network'

Recently, the perceptional and attitudinal study of services provided by IT education centers (Servers) and that of student community (clients) has been carried out by one of the faculty of the Department. The research group is also working on stimulation for improving the quality of IT education in the region. To improve the collection and recovery of the urban property and house tax of the municipal Corporations, a computerized property tax information system is developed by the Department. A computer -augmented goal-programming model for city transport system has been developed and it was implemented as a case study for the Kolhapur Municipal Transport. |

PROJECTIONS FOR NEXT FIVE YEARS. In addition to in going programmes, the efforts will be made by the faculty, to develop algorithms, implementation techniques, software packages \ libraries, user interface for efficiently and reliably solving non-linear constraints arising in Science and Engineering subjects. CONSULTANCY
TheDepartment of Computer studies runs a Division for Computer Consultancy to meet the needs of various organizations in this region.
In early eighties, the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (K.M.C.) approached the Management of SIBER to help them in developing Software for the Pay Roll of their 5,000 employees, Properly tax for four wards, having approximately 40,000 properties. The Division In-charge Prof. Dr. R.M.Patil, in consultation with other faculty members the School developed a Software for Pay Roll and Property Tax of K.M.C. This software was very much appreciated by the experts in the field and the authorities of K.M.C. The SIBER has also developed software for other organizations like, Kolhapur District Central Co-operative Bank (K.D.C.C.), Kolhapur, Warana S.S.K.Ltd, Warananagar, Vasantrao Patil S.S.K.Ltd., Sangli and Kolhapur Municipal Transport. The development of software for the Dividend Warrants: The KDCC Bank, Kolhapur came with a proposal to our Consultancy Division to develop the software for their Dividend Warrants. The experts in the consultancy division could develop the dividend warrants software for the K.D.C.C. Bank. The K.D.C.C. Bank is very much satisfied with the performance of this software. The other organizations are also approaching for similar work.
The faculty has also developed software for the examination division and office automation for the SIBER . The faculty if the SIBER are invited by the various organizations, such as Shetkari Sahakari Sangh Ltd., Kolhapur, Sugar factories and Co-operative Milk organizations, as experts to advice on the selection of hardware and software.
The annual income by way of consultancy, Software Development and Data Processing is around eight lakhs during the recent year.
