The class 40's passed through regularly. The most memorable sights for me were a green "Empress of Canada" hurtling through towards Skegness on a summer saturday (It was the last namer I needed, and broke the monotony of "Accra" and "Apapa" going through), and a long since forgotten member of the class slowly destroying the closed level crossing gates before hitting detonaters in thick fog. My ears were ringing for hours afterwards! |
